Protect the environment from plastic

Recently, Nestl é announced the pilot operation of renewable equipment in three Nestl é stores in Switzerland. It is a partnership with technology start-up MIWA to achieve one of its sustainable mission goals-to reduce disposable packaging.

Nestl é's plastic reduction action

What is the renewable equipment that is the automatic coffee machine. You might think: it's just a coffee machine! But in the West, coffee is a beverage with great sales. Every year, the packaging of coffee consumes a lot of plastic, aluminum foil and other materials, and causes a lot of pollution.

In this article, let's take a look at Nestl é's use of renewable equipment in retail stores.

After introducing the renewable equipment, let's take a look at the motivation of Nestl é's operation and the guidelines behind it. Nestl é aims to achieve 100 per cent use of recyclable or reusable packaging by 2025 and to reduce the use of native plastics (that is, non-recycled plastics) by 1/3.

In stores with renewable equipment, consumers can carry reusable containers (that is, water cups, kettles, etc.) to buy and carry coffee. After the product is used, these renewable devices can be refilled with different types of Nescaf é soluble coffee.

Nestl é says its system can provide consumers with an environmentally friendly shopping experience without using disposable packaging. At the same time, the machine can be renewed to provide a variety of product options. Customers can operate on a machine with a screen, just like using a machine that sells Coke in a large cinema to choose the taste of the product. In addition, consumers can choose to view product information, such as ingredients, nutritional value and shelf life.

Nestle said that during the four-month trial period, the "curry drinking machine" was well received by consumers. There are more positive feedback from users to the company. For example, they say that the machine is very convenient to operate.

In addition, in addition to coffee, the three stores are experimenting with distributable containers for selling a cat food called Purina.

Imagine the meow and Wang Xing people in the future.

All eat cat and dog food without using plastic bags as carriers.

Earlier this year, Nestl é announced that it would invest 2 billion Swiss francs (14.54 billion yuan) in sustainable development projects, including the development of innovative sustainable packaging solutions.

H é l è ne Lanctuit, director of packaging research and development at Nestl é, said: "Packaging is very important for maintaining food safety. This means that whenever we develop a new packaging system, we need to ensure that our products ensure the safety and health of consumers. These renewable devices are novel because they use intelligent technology. It enables us to ensure product safety, freshness and traceability. "

In the coming months, Nestl é will launch the machine in more areas.

How to reduce plastic when we drink coffee

You may think: what does this measure of Nestl é have to do with me? coffee machines are not uncommon. Renewable soft drink machines such as Coke have been used for many years in developed countries such as the United States. This measure seems inconspicuous, but at home, we can extend it to reduce plasticity when it is used in drinking drinks in our daily life.

In Canada and the United States, soft drinks (such as Coke, Sprite and NesTea) in fast food restaurants such as McDonald's are installed in beverage machines. The only drawback is that most businesses still provide disposable plastic or paper cups next to such machines, which, to some extent, leads to waste and overuse of plastic products.

In China, related products have not been widely used. Of course, there are coffee vending machines in offices and other places, but most young people, as the main consumers of coffee, are used to drinking or taking away from disposable cups.

In large chain coffee shops such as Starbucks, there is already a rule that "bring your own coffee cup less than 3 yuan". But in fact, due to the fast pace of life of young people, they think that the cup is bulky and hinder the movement, so there is not a majority of people who actually go to the cafe with the cup or kettle. The environmental problems caused by disposable cups have become increasingly prominent, and in the future, there may be a "shared cup" service similar to sharing portable battery.

Share a cup

A British company called CupClub has launched the world's first cup recycling system in a model similar to today's shared bikes and shared portable battery. After taking away the drinks in the coffee shop, consumers can put the cup back to the nearest recycling point after drinking it.

CupClub hopes to build a shared coffee cup organization with multiple brands. For example, when you buy coffee at Starbucks and find a Luckin Coffee restaurant on the road, you can put the cup in Lucky's recycling bin.

CupClub redesigned the coffee shop's takeout cups, using recycled low-density polypropylene on the cups and lids, which are pure white and are basically the same size and shape as the disposable cups on the market.

CupClub said that through this system, each cup can be recycled 132 times, and several coffee shops in London are already using the "cup recycling system", with more than 100000 cups recycled. CupClub said they hope to reach the goal of 6 million cups within a year.

Last year, Starbucks publicly solicited $10 million for environmentally friendly coffee cups. And CupClub is one of the 12 solutions that stand out in the Starbucks competition, and maybe in the near future, we will see such "shared coffee cups" in Starbucks and other stores.

As for Ruixing mentioned in the article, everyone has vivid memories of its stock collapse in early April this year. What is rarely known is that the company's behavior in environmental protection is not good. Compared with Starbucks, costa and other large coffee chains, Ruixing does not have environmentally friendly measures such as "bring your own cups on sale".

In other words, all Lucky's drinks are made from disposable cups. And according to its customer service, the company does not accept customers to bring their own cups to buy drinks! The quality of master coffee promoted by it is obviously far from the price, quality and brand positioning of its products.
