Today we live in a day and age of turmoil throughout the world. If you look around the world today, you can see it is a world in chaos. Everywhere you turn there is war, terror threats, civil unrest, economic instability, rampant disease and viruses, and severe Earth and weather changes that, without little or no warning, can become overwhelming disasters. It is not a question of if you will be somehow affected by one or more of these issues, it is a matter of when.

There are scientists, scholars, churches, and even world leaders who believe we are entering an age where the world is going to go through such a sudden impact because of one or a combination of things that society, as we know it, will suffer, breakdown, and inevitably collapse.

There is no possible way we can watch the news and see what is happening in our own country and not feel the need to prep. If you haven't begun to prepare yourself, your family, and your circle of close friends for what will ultimately become social breakdown and disorder on a scale which we can't possibly fathom, then you should make a plan and begin immediately. If you already prep then be glad you are where you are and keep improving your chances of surviving whatever may come your way.

Remember, prepping is the best life insurance money can buy and it's an investment that can literally save your life. Are you prepared? Can you honestly say that you and your loved ones will be safe in the face of a major calamity? Should a major catastrophic event take place, are you prepared to do whatever it takes in order for you, your family, and close friends to survive? You might not be prepared now, but you could be.

Part One: Location, location, location!

Depending on your circumstances, your finances, and whether you live in the city or in the country, you should figure out what you will do in a social breakdown situation.

Living in the city, you should have a bugout plan in place. This consists of an escape route out of any populated area. Not if but when the social breakdown occurs there will be a lot of violence. A populated area is not where you want yourself or your family to be.

A good bugout location is essential and the further away from the populous the better. If you are prepared to include family members and friends during your bugout then it should be a central location that is isolated that everyone can reach.

If you are fortunate enough to own land in the country then this might be the ideal location. However, that depends on the distance from the city and suburbs. In a social breakdown scenario, the violence and looting will advance well beyond the suburbs and into the country. Depending upon the population you can gauge just how far feels secure.

Keep in mind there is public land that is isolated from the populous. National Parks, wildlife refuges, and hunting preserves are common throughout the US and could be used to seek refuge in a bugout situation. Please keep in mind that this may also be what other preppers have planned. I would suggest an area with no multi-directional traffic. A dead-end road with a vantage point to observe traffic would be ideal.

Once you have decided on your location be sure to scout the area and look at what resources may be available to you. This will lessen what you will need to carry. Examples would be water, wood, and fish and game.

The number one thing is to make sure you have a plan to get away from the mayhem ASAP. Plan ahead of time on where you are going and how long it may take you to get to your location. Practice using the desired route, normally the shortest and quickest. Know multiple routes to your bugout location to be safe.

Also, know the ETA (estimated time of arrival) for individuals with who you plan to safe-shelter. This will be valuable information to know once you get to your desired bugout location. You will not want any surprises so take every detail into consideration.
