On April 6th, 2021, a film was released called "Save Ralph." This showed a routine of a bunny who was being tested by having makeup products put on him to make sure it was safe for people to use on themselves.

A short time after the release, Tiktok shared the video, making people more aware of the abuse happening for most makeup, skincare, and cleaning products. The short film alone is devastating and hard to watch.

This allowed people to truly understand that animals were being abused and killed to have everyday products be free to use. But this isn't new.

History of Animal Testing

Animal testing, according to AnimalJustice.Ca, has been dated back before the 12th century, when early Greek Physician-Scientists, who believed that nature could be understood by exploration and experiments, to dissect animals to study anatomy as well as satisfy curiosity.

Later in the 12th Century, an Arab physician & surgeon named Ibn Zuhr tested on animals to practice surgery before performing on people.

Later during the 17th century, during the Enlightenment Era (1715-1789), french philosopher & mathematician Rene Descartes performed operations with the belief that animals can't feel pain and are "machine-like."

Yeah. I know.

It wasn't until the 18th century that animal moral consideration rose and decided to be more empathetic to animals.

Stephen Hales was the first to measure blood vessels and study the cardiovascular & respiratory system, while Albrecht Von Haller is known for his study on inflammation, neurophysiology. They still were careful with the animals, understanding that they can indeed feel pain.

In 1867, a parliament was passed to the U.K. called the Cruelty to Animals Act, which set limits to testing, and/or performing on animals. In 1966, a law was signed called the Animal Welfare Act, which regulates the treatment of animals in research, exhibition, transport, and by dealers, according to the USDA.

What can you do next?

Please spread the word. This will allow those particular companies to go down in business and allow companies who care about animals to go up in profit. If you say nothing, you're allowing animals to be abused. Even if you have products from companies now, don't feel bad. The fact that you are well informed allows the awareness to continue.
