On May 13, the Sanmen County Fire and Rescue Brigade received a call from the police. After understanding the situation, we learned that a nest of horned owls, a Grade 2 protected national animal, had been born in the range hood pipe of a home on Hai You Street. The rescue team rushed to the scene to protect the horned owls and sent them to the relevant forestry department for better protection.

This time, four cute owls were found. Next to the hatchlings, there was an adult owl, who appeared to be their mother, watching them. At the rescue site, one could also hear the very crisp sounds of Buno, Buno, and Buno from the cubs. As to why the horned owl was nesting and giving birth in the ducts of the hood, the firefighters were puzzled, but it was always spotted in time. Now that the horned owl is back in nature, it will surely have a better life.

Collared Horned Owl

What kind of species is a horned owl? Many people may not have heard of this animal, but we hear those three words a lot - owl. The horned owl is a species of owl in the horned owl family. The horned owl is a relatively small bird with a body length of 23-25 cm and wings of 15-18 cm. The wings of the horned owl wrap around the trunk of a tree and look like a fluffy tail from a distance, which is very pretty.

Owls generally live in the bush, forests, villages, and trees around towns and cities, so it is not surprising that owls are found in residential buildings. The horned owl is a nocturnal creature that feeds mainly on insects such as beetles and grasshoppers. Large numbers of horned owls are found in southern China, India, Pakistan, and elsewhere. People's first impression of the owl is its call, mournful, even sad.

In ancient times, people abhorred the call of the owl. Rather than crying, it was a miserable "laugh". There was a saying in ancient times that they dreaded the sound of an owl's laughter because when it appeared, it meant that someone was going to die. For this reason, owls were also known as 'mourning birds'.

In ancient times, people lacked scientific knowledge and did not know much about the habits and characteristics of animals, so it was easy to relate them to real-life events. If someone died and the body was placed shortly before or after the hearse, people could hear the laughter of an owl from above, very sad and scary, as if it was an angel from hell trying to take the dead away. But this is not the case.

Is it a sign of a ferocious owl?

Many people have been studying why the dead are associated with the laughter of owls, and then someone gave this explanation: When people die they give off a special smell. Attracted by this smell and mistaking it for food, the owls fly in to feed and laugh as they try to chase their prey out.

This claim is recognized by many, but there is not much scientific basis for it and scientists are studying it, they just haven't got the answer yet. Most of these bizarre things happen together by chance, and people can easily be misled or even rumored out without understanding scientific principles.

An owl is not a sign of great misfortune. On the contrary, it is a good companion for humans and a beneficial creature. Although they rest motionlessly during the day, they go out at night to catch mice and protect our crops at the same time. People don't like owls because of their appearance and their sound.

The owl's appearance is not cute and is even somewhat incongruous and asymmetrical, especially its eyes are scary. When you look at an owl at night, you will inevitably be scared out of your wits. Owls are color blind and do not distinguish colors, so there is no difference between an owl and a hawk, day and night.

The owl's call is the root cause of most people's fear of it. Everyone wishes they had been born with a good voice, but heaven forbid, especially the owl, which calls the Thai, so people don't want owls approaching or even chasing them away with some sort of hostility. The owls in particular are only active at night, and the darkness of the night, combined with their miserable cries, is a bit frightening. No wonder people are so scared.

In short, people don't like owls just until they are beneficial creatures rather than signs of great trouble.
