One minute you’re intending to reply to a message from a friend, trying to remember whether it was on text, messenger.

Or was it hotmail, outlook or Gmail?

Or maybe it was What’s App or Instagram?

You start to click, you start to scroll and all of a sudden you are distracted and get lost down the online rabbit hole.

Aww, a cute animal reel, then a sponsored skincare product you didnt know you needed but with a promise of radiant skin you click in.

Wow! Then that lifestyle photo pops up and all of a sudden I’m dreaming of watching the sunset sat in a hammock on the beach, whiling the day away, then I look up how much are flights to Indonesia, just to feed my curiosity.

What was I supposed to be doing again? I’ve been here half an hour and not messaged my friend back!

So, what if you could feel good by helping our planet all from the comfort of your own home?

And in less then 10 minutes?

It doesn’t matter whether you get lost down the rabbit hole or not afterwards, you can feel good you’ve helped towards something bigger, a positive impact for our planet and tell your friends about it too!

Number 1; Combat climate change

Web Browsing. It’s something we all do, right? Bring up your web browser and type.. ecosia.org

It’s a search engine that plants trees when you web search. It really is that simple, search the web to plant trees!

Ecosia use the ad revenue from your searches to do this, they dedicate 100% profits to climate action with at least 80% financing tree-planting projects.

They anonymise web searches and don’t create a profile for you, because they are interested in trees and not your data.

Ecosia is powered by 200% renewable energy. Their solar panels produce twice the amount of energy needed to power all searches with renewables.

Too good to be true? Ecosia publish detailed financial reports and updates from their tree planting projects.

They plant in over 30 countries with local organisations with over 500 different native species to protect and restore biodiversity.

If you are browsing on a pc or laptop you can even choose to share ecosia with friends.

The share tab is located on the top right of your screen.

Even if you are browsing from your mobile phone, you can set up Ecosia as your default browser.

Something this good, why not spread the word to your friends. This is how I found out about it!

So now we’ve got number 1 as our foundation, all within less than 10 minutes. You can still be sat at home for this one too.

2; Stand by what you believe in

Now this can be more upsetting, as it opens your eyes to injustice, cruelty and the evils of this world.

So please do click on the cute animal videos after you have done this.

But this is an important one, as being part of a collective is a powerful way how we can make change. Here is how.

I found Care 2 petitions, it’s the worlds largest social network for good, a community of over 40 million standing together.

A site where you can sign a petition or start a petition, you can share stories that inspire action and join a wider community to help bring about action through signing.

On the homepage it has a quick link to ‘sign trending petitions’ or you can use the search bar to find something close to your heart.

In less that 10 minutes you can sign up, then you are ready to go.

https://www.care2.com/privacy-policy

Just find the headings, click on to read the story behind the petition and then sign, it’s that easy!

You can hide your name from the petition if you want to be anonymous or you can write a few words in the box to explain ‘Why is this important to you?’ sharing a message to accompany your signing.

Once signed, you can share it on social media to widen the exposure.

You also get asked whether you would like to sign up to e mails related to the cause you signed for.

I find myself on e mail clicking one petition and it leads to other similar ones and you can sign many petitions in under 10 minutes.

So whether it’s Animal Rights, Environmental issues, Politics or Gender Equality. Find something you believe in and make a difference.

You even receive follow up e mails to give a Petition Update, so you do feel part of something bigger and you can hear how you help to make a difference.

3; A Cleaner Planet

Who wouldn’t like a cleaner planet? Well Nobody!

It’s just sometimes we are so busy living our day to day lives we can sometimes be oblivious to what is in front of us.

I’m talking litter, a stray chocolate wrapper or drinks bottle, maybe it blew from the bin or maybe it was dumped but either way, it only takes seconds out of our day to pick up the item and drop it in the next bin.

Some people are going a step further than this. They are ‘Keep Britain Tidy.’

https://www.keepbritaintidy.org/home

Improving the environment on your doorstep by cutting out litter, ending waste, improving public places and educating future generations.

Keep Britain Tidy fights for people’s right to live and work in places they can be proud of and prosper in.

They also celebrate ‘Green Flag awards’ to improve the quality of parks. ‘Blue Flag and Seaside Awards’ recognising the best beaches. And the Keep Britain Tidy Award rewards the cleanest towns and cities.

You can subscribe to find out about latest campaigns and how you can get involved by volunteering and donating.

The ‘Get Involved’ tab allows you to type your postcode in to see what’s going on near you.

So whether, you would like to do your bit, day to day or join a group, it’s something to be mindful of, we can easily do more to help.

Other than community provided bins, you can find where to recycle different items.

https://recyclenow.com/local-recycling

Click on the local recycling tab and the site will bring up a list of all the nearest recycling facilities, many are found in Supermarket store car parks such as Tesco, Co-op, Waitrose. So you don’t necessarily book in a slot at your local recycling site.

So add a spare carrier bag and gloves to your handbag, man bag or pockets as a reminder to pick up litter.

So, in 10 minutes a day you can help tackle Climate Change, Stand for what you believe in and help clean our planet. This really is care.

Now you have something to smile about, be proud of your actions and you can get lost down the online rabbit hole all you want!

Please leave your comments on steps you have taken to help our planet?
