This list of the world's most enigmatic places to visit is sure to have something to pique your interest, from electrified rocks in the middle of the Australian Outback to spooky hotels à la Stephen King, the homes of famous vampires to off-the-beaten-path groves of malformed trees in the depths of Slavic Europe. There should be plenty to keep you occupied, whether you're a conspiracy theorist, an avid UFO hunter, a fan of Nosferatu, a medium, or the paranormal — or even if you just feel like venturing off the beaten path for something a little offbeat.

Some sites are ideal for expressing your strange and amazing interests in the supernatural, while others will make you want to leap out of your skin. While some of these locations are just amazing to visit, this place is full of mystery in every direction.

1. Crooked Forest, Poland

A little group of just over 400 pine trees on Poland's extreme eastern coast, south of the unpronounceable city of Szczecin and a short distance from the German border, has long attracted the interest of Atlas Obscura types and off-the-beaten-path tourists.

The entire forest looks to be twisted back and forth at the trunk, almost 90 degrees, before climbing upwards towards the Slavic sky.

There has been much discussion about what caused the odd wood to take on its current appearance, with hypotheses ranging from blizzards to lumberjack growing methods.

2. The Tower of London, England

From the Tudors to the Elizabethans, all sorts of nefarious activities have taken place between the celebrations of London's historic castle on the north bank, including the killing of kings, the imprisonment of state adversaries, and the scheming of political machinations.

Thomas Becket, a martyred saint who is believed to have prevented the palace's extension from the afterlife, first appeared in stories of hauntings and eerie events.

The largest commotion, though, is caused by the ghost of a certain Queen Anne Boleyn, whose headless figure is spotted prowling close to the location of her 1530s execution at Henry VII's command!

3. The Bermuda Triangle, Atlantic Ocean

The Bermuda Triangle's seas have long been the source of legends about missing sailors, vanished ships, crashed planes, and even vanished people.

The wide region of more than 500,000 square miles is also referred to as the Devil's Triangle, and there are various ideas as to why so many travelers end themselves in its snares.

Some claim that tropical cyclones are to blame, others that magnetic anomalies are to blame, and yet others that there is simply no mystery at all! With Bermuda's coves in the north and the sun-drenched Turks and Caicos islands in the south, visiting the area nowadays can be a lot more enjoyable than you might anticipate.

4. Eternal Flame Falls, United States

Discover the Shale Creek's hidden wonder by exploring the winding walking trails that traverse Chestnut Ridge Park. This odd natural occurrence, fittingly named Eternal Flame Falls, is quite amazing to witness.

Why? Why? Because it unites two of the planet's most fundamental forces in a single location. First, you'll see the stunning falls themselves, tumbling over a series of levels of chiseled granite rock.

The flame then appears, glimpsed flickering behind the cataracts. Natural gas is believed to be the cause of the conflagration, which never goes out, according to scientists. This gas seeps up from beneath the earth.

5. The Banff Springs Hotel, Canada

The Banff Springs Hotel in Canada is rumored to be the setting of a slew of ghost stories and eerie events, with hints of the Timberline Lodge from Stephen King and Stanley Kubrick's The Shining fame. Locals claim that a whole family was brutally murdered in room 873. Others describe doormen who disappear and then reappear.

You're in for a big treat here, though, if you believe you can handle the supernatural reputation. The elegant hotel exudes Scottish Baronial influences, is surrounded by the Canadian Rockies' fir-draped peaks, and provides access to the famous ski resorts of Jasper and Banff.

6. Transylvania, Romania

The spooky aura of this large territory in the very center of Romania is enhanced by sylvan hills and mist-covered mountains, the clanging echo of church bells, and the stone-built medieval steeples of towns like Sibiu, Brasov, and Cluj.

But Bran Castle is the one location that truly sends shivers down one's spine. This fortress with turrets rises from the Wallachian forest's edge in a jumble of Gothic towers and gargoyle-peppered roofs.

It has been linked to a variety of less-than-savory, incredibly enigmatic people over the years, including Count Dracula, the iconic Nosferatu, and Vlad the Impaler, the bloodiest of the Wallachian kings.

7. Bhangarh Fort, India

The ancient bulwarks of the Bhangarh Fort are said to reverberate with the ethereal presence of one cursed princess and her would-be captor, the wizard Sinhai. They are encircled by the rises of the Aravali Hills and baked by the Rajasthani sun.

It is reported that Sinhai offered the young royal a love potion in an attempt to seduce her. The wizard's scheme backfired, and he died, but not before casting his curse on every resident of Bhangarh.

The Mughlai complex where Madho Singh I once walked is now regarded as one of India's most haunted locations. No one is allowed to enter after dark, and the persistent curse has even been blamed for fatalities according to the locals!
