Mysteries around us

  1. For many decades, residents of the city of Taos in the USA have been hearing an unusual hum, the so-called Taos hum or Taos noise. This is an anomalous sound phenomenon in nature. The hum is similar to the movement of heavy equipment on the road, but there are no big roads in Taos. It is also strange that not all residents hear this noise, only about 2%, and visitors don’t hear it at all. Scientists tried to find out where the source of the incomprehensible hum was. However, they found nothing and referred to the power line. What kind of sounds they were and where they came from was unclear, and to this day the Taos hum remains not only unexplained but is also included in the Ten Unexplained Phenomena of the program "Unsolved Mysteries.
  2. On November 24, 1971, a Boeing 727 airliner was hijacked en route to Portland. A passenger named Dan Cooper sat in his seat 18C in Portland and, 8 minutes after takeoff, passed a note to the flight attendant. The note said that Cooper had a bomb in his briefcase and that the plane had been hijacked. The air pirate's demands were four parachutes and $200,000 in twenty-dollar bills. The flight attendant was shown a bomb, and it was decided to cooperate with Mr. Cooper. At 17:24 the plane landed in Portland. Cooper prudently asked to turn off the lights on the plane to prevent snipers from seeing him. The government satisfied the demands of the invader, and Cooper himself released the hostages except for one flight attendant, the board mechanic, and the pilots. At 19:40 the plane took off in the direction of Washington. After a while, Cooper sent the flight attendant to the cockpit and ordered her to remain there. At about 2:13 DB Cooper jumped from the plane. However, two more parachutes remained on the plane. Did the robber manage to land? What happened to him and where the money went did not become clear. In the 1980s, $6,000 from the series that were given to Cooper were identified. However, the fate of the rest of the money is unknown. Just as unknown is the fate of criminal 45 years after the hijacking, the FBI suspended the investigation of this case. To this day, DB Cooper is one of the most mystical figures of the last century.
  3. Ronga ronga or Koha rongo rongo - these are wooden tablets with the inscriptions of the inhabitants of Easter Island. The tablets were discovered in 1864 by the bishop Eiro. Shortly before this, many residents of Easter Island, including those capable of deciphering Koha o Rongo Rongo, were taken as slaves to Chile. In 1866, most of the tablets were destroyed, and only 25 of them have survived to this day. Deciphering this writing is almost impossible, and those capable of reading these signs are no longer left. Small amount of text, lack of context, and the mix of languages of the inhabitants of Easter Island - these are the main problems in deciphering the inscriptions. Many scientists have tried and are still trying to understand what is written on the wooden tablets. However, what is certain is that some of the information is related to the lunar calendar. So ronga ronga is another unsolved mystery of Easter Island along with statues. What if statues and tablets are somehow connected?
  4. On the Nazca plateau in southern Peru, there is a group of giant images of the so-called geoglyphs. About 30 drawings depict animals and people, 133,000 lines and stripes, as well as about 700 geographical figures are located on an area of 50 km. The drawings are quite large and you will see them from the ground; it is difficult to understand them from the ground. The meter-long Condor, Catfish, Spider, and Fifty Caliber are not visible so easily; they were discovered only in 1939 when the plane of the archaeologist Paul Kosaka flew over the plateau. Dating these geoglyphs is a complex matter; scientists only agree that they were created before the 10th century. Many researchers believe that their creators are the Nazca civilization, which existed until the 2nd century BC. The reasons for the creation of these truly grandiose geoglyphs are not completely clear. Many believe this is the worship of deities; others believe the Nazca geoglyphs are the most astronomical calendar. UFOlogists talk about the geoglyph as a landing site for alien ships. What is this actually unknown to anyone and the drawings were preserved only thanks to the semi-desert; they were dug half a meter deep since 1994. The geoglyphs are a UNESCO World Heritage Site, although they are incomprehensible to modern humanity.
  5. Caño Island and the Nicoya Peninsula off the Pacific coast of Costa Rica have their own secret on them. Stone balls, of which at least 300 were discovered. These balls are made of gabbro, limestone, or sandstone and they measure from an inch to 2 meters in cross-section. The largest of the balls weigh up to 16 tons. The dating of their creation varies from 200 BC to 1500 AD. The reason for the creation of these petrospheres is another unsolved riddle. There is an assumption that this is either a designation of luminaries or the boundaries between the lands of different tribes. How the tribes that built the balls achieved these perfect shapes is also a matter of dispute. Some suggest that they lay for a long time in the water, which allowed them to be so round. These artifacts were discovered only in the last century by workers when clearing areas for banana plantations. Many workers split and drilled stones, hoping there may be gold. However, the management of their company soon stopped vandalism. Since the 1940s, geologists and scientists of all stripes began to study the balls and took them to museums. These petrospheres stone balls of Costa Rica in their places - this is another mysterious chapter from the story of the disappeared tribes and another mystery that people will most likely never solve.
