Here's How To Stay Cool

By Kevin2wokrayzee VlogsPublished about a month ago 3 min read

Similar to the previous few summers, this summer is expected to be equally scorching, if not hotter, as predicted by our reliable environmental scientist. It is evident that temperatures are increasing, and although global efforts are being made to address this issue, there are also personal actions we can take to keep ourselves cool, particularly during the anticipated heatwaves of summer 2024. Here are five practical strategies to stay cool:

1. Stay Hydrated

Drink plenty of water throughout the day to stay hydrated. Yes it comes with annoyance of having to use the restroom often. But I promise you if you start now, by mid summer your body will have adapted to your new water intake regiment and so will your bladder. Staying hydrated does now only have to be through drinking water, some fruits and foods are excellent sources of hydration, watermelon, oranges, cucumbers, pineapples and peaches are just a few on the list. Avoid sugary drinks and alcohol as they can dehydrate you. Carry a reusable insulated water bottle with you and refill it regularly with cold water. You do not want to be drinking warm water on hot day because of an uninsulated water bottle.

2. Use Fans and Air Conditioning

Utilize fans and air conditioning to keep your living space cool. Ceiling fans can circulate air effectively, and portable fans can be placed in specific areas. The best fans to utilize are ones that have the capacity to blow cool air via means of an ice tray via build in or attachment feature. Lets face it a fan in a hot room capturing hot air will on blow hot air. For a fan to be effective it has to be getting cold air input to truly cool a person or hot room down. Of course If you have air conditioning there is no need for a fan. You can just set your AC to a comfortable temperature and make sure your windows and doors are sealed properly to keep the cool air in.

3. Wear Light and Breathable Clothing

In the Winter you need clothing that keeps you warm hence in Summer you need clothing that will help you cool down and stay cool. Choose loose-fitting, light-colored clothing made from natural fibers like cotton and linen. These materials are breathable and help your body regulate its temperature. Wearing a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses can also provide additional protection from the sun. Keep a small cotton face towel on hand. If it gets too hot you can always hit it with some cold water and wipe your face or rest it on your neck.

4. Cool Down with Water

Inside the body and on the outside of the body water is essential for cooling down. Hence take cool showers or baths to lower your body temperature. Also if you are able to install misters on your outside deck or patio. If you have access to a pool, lake, or beach, take a dip to stay cool.

5. Adjust Your Schedule

Plan outdoor activities for the cooler parts of the day, such as early morning or late evening. If you are looking for places to 'chill out' be sure that your outdoor activities include water sports of any sort. During peak heat hours (usually between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.), stay indoors or in shaded areas, if you must go out an umbrella, yes an umbrella can be a useful mobile shade provider. Lastly, if you need to exercise, do it in the early morning or late evening when it's cooler.

Implement as much of these strategies as you can to help stay comfortable and safe during the hot sizzling summer months.
