Y.A. Fiction Isn't Just For Kids
Nothing can quite describe the joy of walking through the Junior's or Young Adult section of a library when you're a kid. Moving up at last from picture books to chapter books is a heck of a milestone: for once you feel grown up, sophisticated, not like the babies sitting in a circle for story time and hand puppets. It's a feeling that can't quite be explained, and once that magic is gone it's almost impossible to recapture it.

First Grade
So, how many of you remember what first grade was like? First grade is when children become students in more formal education, as in learning to read and write and learn more basic math skills. There is still art, music and physical education activities, but more in line with learning the subject matter not just making crafts, singing songs and moving around. First grade is the very foundation of what is to come.

She flings her arms around my neck and squeezes me like she’s never going to let me go. My head spins as her lips brush against my cheek. She must be able to feel my heart thumping in my chest. I shuffle backwards and ram my hands into my coat pockets, watching her reach down and heave the rucksack across her shoulders.
