Amores Perros

Short critique

Amores Perros is a movie that is made up of three separate stories that are connected by a vehicle accident that momentarily brings the characters together.

Each of the three tales is an examination of human cruelty against both animals and fellow humans, showing how individuals can lead miserable or even frightening lives. The dog, known as "man's best friend," illustrates the film's loyalty-related concept. The three stories all revolve around dogs, and in each one, different manifestations of human loyalty or disloyalty are depicted: disloyalty to a brother by attempting to seduce the brother's wife; disloyalty to a wife by maintaining a mistress with subsequent disloyalty to the mistress when she is hurt and loses her beauty; loss of loyalty to youthful idealism and rediscovered loyalty to a daughter as a hitman falls.

Although this movie is a hard watch, it’s definitely worth seeing.

Excellent review! Does it contain any animal abuse or animal death?

Thanks so much for sharing this Diani! He is an amazing director. 21 Grams might be my favourite of his, but Amores Perros is a phenomenal film as well. I actually have not p seen it for about 15 years, but just tracked it down on DVD from the library yesterday - so am looking forward to re-watching it! 😄
