According to foreign media reports on December 19, Japan’s fourth round of nuclear-contaminated water discharge into the sea will begin in late February 2024. According to analysts, this discharge will last for 30 years.
According to a report by the Japan Broadcasting Association (NHK) on the 18th local time, Tokyo Electric Power Company said that day that the fourth round of discharge of nuclear-contaminated water from the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant into the sea will begin in late February 2024, and the total discharge into the sea is expected to be 7,800 tons.
In 2021, Chen Gengxin, a researcher at the South China Sea Institute of Oceanography, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and his collaborators wrote the article "Ocean Circulation Will Accelerate the Diffusion of Fukushima Nuclear-Contaminated Water" to analyze the global diffusion path after the discharge of nuclear-contaminated water.
Chen Gengxin said in an interview with reporters that after Japan discharges nuclear contaminated water into the sea, the North Pacific will become a severely polluted area.
In addition, ocean circulation will spread radioactive elements contained in nuclear-contaminated water to all oceans. According to model projections, radioactive nuclear elements will reach the East my country Sea in about one year (contaminating most of the Pacific Ocean in 57 days).
Radioactive nuclear elements will not just stay on the surface of the ocean, "it can be said to pollute the ocean in three dimensions."
The discharge of nuclear contaminated water into the sea will cause unpredictable damage and harm to the global marine environment. Among them, the first to bear the brunt are fisheries and downstream industries-Japanese food stores.
In order to ensure a stable supply of product raw materials, some stores have begun to introduce diversified seafood, including seafood from New Zealand, Canada, France and other countries and regions.
