Types of love

The times love visited me

By Favour NwobiPublished 3 years ago • 3 min read

I guess there are different kinds of love.

Yes love comes in different forms; romantic, platonic, family. Though that’s not what I mean.

I mean you can be “in love”, in different ways, ways that feel completely different.

See I’m too young to know all of the types, but I do know a few, that’s the few times I have experienced love, they came to me very differently, in different waves, magnitude, form even.

Firstly, it is first love.

The first time I fell in love, truly and wholeheartedly in love.

I didn’t know how to go about it, I tried to hold on to it so much, so close, it burned me in the process.

See because it was the first time.

I had no idea how to nurture it, I just held on.

Gripped really hard onto it, hoping it wouldn’t leave me.

For me, nothing else mattered at that moment. Only it, only him.

A bathed in the feeling, basked in every moment, wishing they were longer, wishing they were forever.

But we all know wishful thinking never just did it.

I don’t have to point out that I was pretty young when I experienced my first love. I was naive, stupid, hungry for the stuff I had been obsessed over for years, the thing I have fantasized about for far too long.

All the movies, all the books, the stories. I tried my best to feel it all, in the one love story.

It didn’t happen of course, but I enjoyed it.

Not at the end though, I don’t think I’ve ever liked the end phase of love, I don’t think I can.

Secondly, I felt comfortable love.

A love that felt like a missing piece, it balanced me. It nurtured me.

This love held my hand and made me feel safe and at home.

This love taught me to laugh, to smile, it opened my eyes to all the good life had to offer.

This love, this love was soothing.

It calmed my nerves, it felt like the softest pillow to lay on.

I prayed for it to last forever.

Prayed for it to stay, so I would feel that much peace forever.

I didn’t see the need to grip, it gripped on to me.

It brought me peace.

For that I am forever grateful, for that I pray all my future loves bring such a feeling.

I pray my forever love would be this kind of love.

The best kind of love.

The love that consumed you.

The love that took over your body and controlled your every move.

This love didn’t bring butterflies, it sparked flames in the pit of your stomach, it set off fireworks in every nerve of your being.

This love invaded my senses.

It felt like the best kind of high, the best kind of ride, the best kind of trip.

It got you savoring it, leaving a taste in your mouth for years to come.

It was unmatched.

It consumed me, it got me to my knees begging for more, pleading for more.

This love got into my dreams, it made me beg for the most darkest things I could think of.

It made me question myself, my principles, my morality.

It tasted like sin, bitter sweet.

Addictive, like a drug.

It got me craving for more, like a crack addict.

It got me obsessed.

Each kiss, each touch, each memory.

They imprinted themselves on me, constantly reminding me of the times when my heart raced in my chest and my head went back in pleasure at the feel that brought goosebumps all over my skin and waves of shock to flood my entire body.

Every touch was tattooed.

Every word spoken was a permanent song I knew all the words to.
