A reason to betray a friend
Betrayal is a powerful and often painful act detested across the board, even evil persons and people who betray others hate it all the same. There isn’t a feeling quite as unique as being betrayed by a loved one in whom we’ve put all our confidence and trust, no amount of words can describe that feeling. Loyalty is valued by pretty much everybody, we expected it from friends, family, and even people we barely know to some extent, this is one of those rare instances where there is a clear-cut preference between two antagonistic feelings. I can’t imagine a person ever saying they love being betrayed. While betrayal is generally viewed negatively, understanding the scenarios where one might feel compelled to betray a friend can offer insights into the complexities of human behavior and loyalty.

Using Silence and Empathy to Find Strength. Top Story - August 2024.
The authority of silence 😌 Silence. It is not only the lack of noise. It is a tool, a power, a weapon. Silence can be the loudest statement in a society when everyone is yelling to be heard. Try to consider it. When have you lately really welcomed silence? Not the embarrassing sort that causes fidget, but the kind that lets you breathe, think, and simply be.

The invisible girl
In a small town and an old house where the Spiston family resides, they gathered around the TV on a stormy night. They were watching a new episode of their favorite cartoon, "The Spiston Family". The episode depicted a new adventure where they stumbled upon a strange device in the recently purchased old house. The father, John, an engineer always fascinated by technology and oddities, hoped to discover something intriguing in this old house. The mother, Kate, a successful lawyer, was more concerned with the routine events of their lives. The children, Sam and Lisa, were adventure enthusiasts, loving to watch the cartoon and imagining themselves in the heroes' situations. The episode started off normally, with the Spiston family opening a door under the stairs and discovering a hidden room filled with old items. In the corner, they found a peculiar device never seen before, with glowing lights and strange buttons. Suddenly, John noticed that the device began showing animated images of future events. At first, the images were mysterious and unclear, but after a few moments, precise and specific predictions of events in their lives began to appear. The device showed images of strange accidents, like an incoming car crash, a kitchen fire, and even images of events where the Spiston family gathered with their friends at a large party. The family started dealing with the matter with anxiety and fear. They wondered how this device could predict these events with such accuracy, and whether this meant they were facing a tragic future. Or was there something they could do to avoid these predicted events? As time passed, the predicted events started happening exactly as foreseen. The expected accident occurred, the kitchen fire broke out, and even the family attended the party that was predicted. Astonishment and fear prevailed among each member of the family, unable to understand how this device worked and how it could predict the future events so accurately. There was nothing they could do to avoid the predicted events; they were mere witnesses to their occurrence. The situation escalated when the device began showing images of more serious and grave events, leaving the family to wonder if there was a way to stop these terrifying prophecies from happening. One stormy night, John discovered that the device was not just an ordinary gadget but part of a secret scientific experiment conducted by a major corporation. The company was testing how technology could be used to peer into the future and had distributed devices to test their predictions. The Spiston family found themselves unwittingly part of this experiment. Upon this discovery, John decided to report to the police and authorities about what had happened and requested the company to immediately stop the experiment. The devices were changed, everything reset, and gradually the life of the Spiston family returned to normal. However, after all these terrifying experiments and the strange predictions they experienced, the Spiston family never forgot that experiment. Questions remained about the future, destiny, and whether there really was such a thing as "inevitable fate".In a small town and an old house where the Spiston family resides, they gathered around the TV on a stormy night. Indian festival Onam: A Celebration of Culture, Tradition, and Unity
Onam: A Celebration of Culture, Tradition, and Unity** Onam is not just a festival but a grand celebration deeply rooted in the cultural fabric of Kerala, a southwestern state in India known for its lush landscapes, rich heritage, and vibrant traditions. It marks the homecoming of King Mahabali, a beloved mythical ruler whose reign was considered a golden era of prosperity and equality. This ten-day festival, typically falling in the month of August or September, brings together people of all communities to revel in joyous festivities, culinary delights, colorful decorations, and traditional art forms. **Legend of Onam** The legend of Onam revolves around King Mahabali, known for his generosity, wisdom, and just rule. According to Hindu mythology, Mahabali was an ardent devotee of Lord Vishnu. His popularity and power grew to the extent that it worried the gods, particularly Indra, the king of gods. Seeking to humble Mahabali, Vishnu took the form of Vamana, a dwarf Brahmin boy, and approached Mahabali for alms. In a benevolent gesture, Mahabali offered to grant Vamana whatever he wished. Vamana then requested land measuring just three paces. As Mahabali agreed, Vamana expanded in size, covering the entire universe in two steps and leaving no space for the third. In reverence to Mahabali's generosity and devotion, Vamana blessed him to visit his people once a year. This annual visit is celebrated as Onam, symbolizing the return of Mahabali to his kingdom and the joyous welcome by his people. **Onam Celebrations** Onam festivities are marked by colorful rituals and traditions that start ten days before the main day, known as Thiru Onam. Each day has its own significance, with elaborate rituals and offerings made to honor Mahabali and seek his blessings for prosperity and happiness. 1. **Atham:** The first day of Onam begins with the Atham star and involves the ceremonial raising of Onam flags (Ona-pookkalam) in every household. The day sets the tone for the celebrations that follow. 2. **Pookalam:** One of the most enchanting aspects of Onam is the creation of intricate floral carpets or Pookalams. These are meticulously made using flowers of various colors and designs, adorning courtyards as a symbol of welcome and festivity. 3. **Traditional Cuisine:** Onam is incomplete without the grand Onam Sadhya, a feast served on banana leaves that includes a lavish spread of vegetarian dishes. Prepared with love and care, the Sadhya showcases the culinary heritage of Kerala, featuring delicacies like avial, olan, thoran, and payasam. 4. **Puli Kali and Kaikottikali:** Onam also witnesses vibrant cultural performances like Puli Kali, where artists painted as tigers dance through the streets, and Kaikottikali, a graceful dance performed by women in traditional attire. 5. **Vallam Kali (Boat Race):** Another highlight of Onam is the Vallam Kali, or snake boat race, where beautifully decorated longboats compete amidst cheering crowds on rivers and backwaters. It symbolizes team spirit and unity. 6. **Onakkodi:** New clothes, known as Onakkodi, are an essential part of Onam celebrations. Family members dress in traditional attire, adding to the festive spirit. 7. **Shopping and Markets:** Onam also sees bustling markets and shops offering a variety of items, from handcrafted souvenirs to sweets and snacks, enhancing the festive fervor. **Significance of Onam** Onam transcends religious boundaries, uniting people of all faiths in Kerala. It reflects the essence of unity, equality, and prosperity that Mahabali symbolizes. The festival reinforces social harmony and community bonding, fostering a sense of belonging and togetherness among Keralites. Moreover, Onam holds agricultural significance, celebrating the harvest season and the bountiful yield of crops. Farmers express gratitude to nature's bounty through rituals and prayers, seeking blessings for another prosperous year ahead. **Modern Celebrations** In contemporary times, Onam celebrations have evolved with cultural performances, competitions, and community events held worldwide where Keralites reside. The spirit of Onam resonates globally, with festivities showcasing Kerala's cultural richness and heritage. **Conclusion** Onam is more than just a festival; it is a celebration of Kerala's cultural resilience, traditions, and values. It brings families, friends, and communities together in joyous harmony, reflecting the spirit of unity and prosperity. As Keralites eagerly await the return of King Mahabali each year, Onam continues to embody the essence of tradition, festivity, and cultural heritage, making it one of India's most cherished and celebrated festivals.

A Love with Regrets
It’s the much-anticipated reunion of my old high school, and the atmosphere feels just like it did on my very first day there, surrounded by familiar faces. However, I struggled to recognize my classmates, as time has transformed our youthful appearances—many have entered their 30s, some are even parents now. It wasn’t until they waved at me, brimming with excitement, that I realized who they were. It’s been 15 years since we graduated. “Hi, Audrey! I’ve missed you so much!” Mary exclaimed. Mary was the prom queen and an honor student back in the day. Now, she’s a Marketing Manager at a newspaper company and has her own family. “Hi, Mary! It’s so good to see you! How are you doing?” I replied, genuinely happy to reconnect. "I’m doing well! What about you? I see you on TV all the time,” she said. Yes, I’m a reporter at a television station, often out in the field chasing stories, including those in dangerous areas and the political sphere. “I’m good! Thankfully, my boss approved my day off for this reunion. I really wanted to catch up with you,” I responded. “After all these years, right?” Mary noted. “Hey, could you add me on Facebook? I just reactivated my account,” I asked. “Of course! Finally, after all this time, you’re back on!” she replied cheerfully. “Yeah, I wasn’t ready for it back then, which is why my mom took it away. But now that I’m 30, I'm free to manage it myself,” I explained. “By the way, where’s your boyfriend? I heard you’re seeing someone,” she asked. “He’ll be here to pick me up later. He chose not to come so I could enjoy time with you all,” I said. After mingling with old friends, I noticed a familiar face from my past—James. He didn't quite look like the handsome boy I remembered. Sixteen years ago, he was part of a sentimental chapter in my life, a relationship that ended sadly. Now I have someone who I plan to spend my life with. Just then, Mary approached me again. “Mary, there’s something I need to talk to you about,” I said, my voice slightly trembling. “What’s on your mind?” she asked, sensing my unease. “I saw James, and he looks like he’s going through something,” I revealed. “THE JAMES?” she exclaimed, glancing toward him. “The jerk who broke your heart! What’s he doing here?” Mary fumed. “Calm down. This is a reunion; we can’t let our past dictate our present,” I reasoned. “But he broke your heart, Audrey! If he had any sense, you two would’ve ended up together,” Mary argued. “I regret how things ended 16 years ago at the lake. If only I had loved him more, maybe he wouldn’t have sought someone else,” I admitted. “I know it’s hard, but you’ve moved on. You have a great boyfriend who treats you right. We’re all grown up now,” she reminded me. “You’re right. It shouldn’t have played out that way,” I acknowledged. Suddenly, the host took the mic to kick off the reunion festivities, and the noise quieted. “Hello, Sto. Niño High School Class of 2015! Welcome to our annual reunion. We’ll begin with an opening prayer and a message from our principal,” the host announced. As the reunion got underway, memories came flooding back to me of James. When I was in 9th grade, he was my charming and sweet boyfriend, a star basketball player. Our romance began with an accidental meet-cute when I fell into his arms during gym practice. He always brought me flowers and made time for dates, with friends as chaperones since my mother insisted on it. I remember feeling lucky to be with someone as affectionate as he was. “Why do you bring Mary and Candace on our dates?” he once asked. “My mom is strict about chaperones,” I explained. Meanwhile, Mary and Candace would hang out in nearby cafes, keeping an eye on us. Life with James felt like a fairy tale, but that innocence couldn’t last forever. On game days, I would cheer him on, but I often felt jealous when other girls approached him. There were signs that he wasn’t the same, which eventually led to the heart-wrenching day he ended our relationship. “I have something to tell you,” James said one day, and my heart raced. “What is it?” I asked, feeling a shiver of apprehension. “Let’s break up,” he stated flatly. My world shattered. “What? Why?” I cried, disbelief and anger overtaking me. “I’m tired of this relationship,” James answered, seemingly devoid of emotion. “What’s wrong? I’ve done everything for you!” I pleaded. He revealed that another girl had been in the picture before he met me. The realization that everything I experienced had been a lie left me devastated. Suddenly, Mary appeared, furious. “I KNEW IT! You had someone else all along,” she yelled at James. “Let’s go, Audrey. You don’t deserve this,” Mary said, helping me to my feet. And just like that, James faded from my life. Years passed, and while I focused on moving forward, life had other plans. At the reunion, I found him again, this time an older, more subdued man. After my valedictorian speech, memories of that painful love story washed over me. I recounted my experience to Mary as we wandered through the hallways. “James hurt you back then,” she reminded me. “I know. Yet, despite everything, I’ve learned to forgive him,” I replied. Just then, James approached us, clearly surprised to see me. “Are you Audrey Mendoza?” he asked. “Yes, that’s me,” I said. “James Pahati! You hurt my friend all those years ago, and I won’t forget it,” Mary said, glaring at him. I intervened, asking Mary for a moment alone with James. She reluctantly agreed and stepped away. “Audrey, it’s great to see you again,” he said as we walked down the hall together, memories surfacing. “Are you married? Did that girl who came after me make you happy?” I questioned. “Well, we broke up,” he admitted. “Got it,” I said, feeling a mix of emotions. We sat in the cafeteria, surrounded by silence until James spoke again. “Are you married?” he asked. “No, but I do have a boyfriend now,” I replied honestly. “I’m truly sorry for how I treated you. I can’t help but regret the time we lost. If things had been different, I would have wanted to marry you,” he said reflective. “It’s okay. We carry our scars, but they taught us something valuable. Not every love has a happy ending, and while we could have been soulmates, we weren’t meant to last,” I explained. “Exactly. I’m happy for you,” he said sincerely. “I have faith you’ll find someone who truly cherishes you. I know you want to make things right, but things can’t go back to what they were,” I told him firmly. “Yeah, you’re right. Should we be friends?” James suggested. “I would like that,” I replied. We exchanged phone numbers, and as we left, I spotted my boyfriend waiting for me. “So, this is it. Thanks for everything. It was nice seeing you again,” James said. “It was great reconnecting. Take care,” I responded. As we parted ways, I felt an unexpected sense of closure. Love may not always offer a fairy tale ending, but it certainly brings lessons that shape our lives. My high school love story may have been filled with regrets, but I walked away with a heart ready to embrace new beginnings and cherished memories.

Fuck It. Content Warning.
We should be able to share life's disparities with people we are close to without having to cover ourselves up in a blanket of toxic positivity. I am not always fine. I am not always feeling well. My skin gets ashy as fuck sometimes. Sometimes people don't tell me when I have a booger in my nose, and I walk around all day looking disgusting. I am not always happy, but that doesn't mean that I am sad. I can have inside joy, but my face resembles a resting bitch face. Please, stop harassing me with the "are you alright" questions, and on the flip side, if I express my struggle and pain, don't just tell me "it'll be alright." It's quite ridiculous. I hate having to be anything other than me.

Trading Relief Aid for Sex in Sudan: A Shocking Reality
### Trading Relief Aid for Sex in Sudan: A Shocking Reality In a report published by The Guardian, a disturbing practice has been uncovered involving the Sudanese army trading relief aid for sex in the region of Omdurman. This report exposes a shocking reality where many Sudanese women are coerced into sex in exchange for essential necessities for survival, highlighting the worsening humanitarian conditions in the country due to conflicts and economic crises. #### Background and Humanitarian Context Sudan, a country plagued by long-standing armed conflicts and economic crises, has witnessed a significant deterioration in living conditions for many, especially vulnerable women and girls residing in severely affected areas where poverty and marginalization are prevalent. #### Trading Relief Aid and Sexual Exploitation According to the report, Sudanese army soldiers exploit women and girls in dire need by forcing them into sexual acts in exchange for food and basic relief supplies. This form of exploitation not only degrades human dignity but also constitutes a gross violation of basic human rights and ethical principles. #### Social and Health Implications In addition to the immense psychological impact on victims, such trade increases the spread of infectious diseases such as HIV/AIDS and viral hepatitis, given the lack of adequate health oversight or preventive measures. This places women and girls at significant health risk and could exacerbate the health crisis in the region. #### Necessary Measures and Future Challenges To address this appalling issue, urgent and effective measures are required from Sudanese authorities and the international community. This includes strengthening oversight of humanitarian aid distribution, robustly enforcing laws against those responsible for such heinous acts, and providing support and protection to victims. #### Conclusion Ultimately, using humanitarian resources as a tool for sexual exploitation constitutes a grave ethical and humanitarian breach. The international community and local governments must approach this crisis with utmost seriousness to ensure the protection of women and girls and to provide a safe and dignified environment for them. In summary, The Guardian's report should serve as a catalyst for deep reflection and concerted action to end such injustice and exploitation in Sudan and other regions experiencing similar humanitarian crises.

Void of all emotions
There are people capable of looking you in the eyes, crying to you with all their heart and still betray you at the end of the day. Even while appealing to your humanity, even while begging you on their knees and making you all sorts of promises, they will still deliberately choose to stab you in the back.

How i got Embarrassed
It was a bright Monday morning, and the Coridor of high school it was buzzed with the usual energy. I felt a bit off, but with so many classes to attend, I shrugged it off and pushed through the day. By the time lunch period arrived, I was grateful for a break. I headed to the cafeteria with my friends, trying to ignore the mild cramps in my lower abdomen.
