Amir glanced at the clock once again. He had stopped the bad habit of pulling out the note but his nerves had ramped up. With only fifteen minutes left until the last bell, his meeting with Evelyn was getting closer and closer. It had only been three days and Amir was appalled that Luxuryville and Cauzmics Elementary were his real reality. Each moment he wished to awake from the nightmare and be back home with his mom in California. Even though Amir was clear that he had never had a dream last so long and seemed so real, Amir still held on to the idea. Amir had been unhappy to be at Cauzmics elementary he was a very observant young man and had already noticed quite a bit about Evelyn Grahm. Amir only liked one thing that he noticed about Evelyn thus far. Evelyn Grahm had a smile that could catch your eye from a mile away. It really wasn't the smile it was how her whole face smiled, with her mouth and teeth. Her cheeks, her eyes, and even her forehead would get involved for the ultimate smile. Other than that Amir was very unimpressed by Evelyn, the way she flew around chatting, joking, and being extra friendly with everyone seemed odd to Amir. All the students, the faculty, and even parents responded really positively to Evelyn but Amir could see through it all.

All of her interactions appeared to Amir to be managed like she was doing several things at once instead of just talking. Amir found it mysterious that she was so loud and talkative but also unapproachable. Evelyn initiated every conversation, all interactions seemed to be on her terms. That is why Amir was not surprised at all when she slipped him the note the way she did, he was aware she did not want anyone else to know about the note. Without saying a single word she had alerted Amir of this and he did not tip off anyone in the class. Amir felt like the intensity of the short moment of eye contact with Evelyn was terrifying and he did not look her way at all after she gave him the note.

When Amir finally got the note he was not surprised. Bossy, and quick to the point, he thought she might wish to threaten him. Maybe she was a sister of one of the boys Amir had embarrassed at recess. It was only day three but Amir had made no friends and based upon his attitude it seemed he was only looking to create enemies. He was short with the teachers and enjoyed beating the kids at everything at recess, but because he did not talk much, or laugh at any of their jokes, the other kids thought him hostile. He wondered if he had accidentally done something to offend Evelyn like he had the classmates and the teachers. Overall he was not looking forward to the interaction but was looking forward to getting it over with. Most of all he was looking forward to walking back to his Uncle's house with his only friends in all of Roj. Micheal and Brock, the kids that lived across the street from Amir's uncle were the only kids Amir liked. Micheal was the younger brother that was Amir's age and Brock was the older brother and he was in middle school.

Brock and Micheal's parents were almost always out of town so it was nice for Amir to go over there and be free. He loved playing fantasy and dorky games on a game cube with Micheal and he liked listening to emo punk rock with Brock. The unlimited candy and mountain dew, as well as the huge trampoline in the backyard, were the other perks Amir enjoyed.
