Friday, 9 December 2022 Grant Wahl used is many social media platforms to speak out about the activities of the Qatari government. He tried to wear a shirt with rainbows on into the games and was refused entrance. Thousands of people watched along on his Twitter account to hear about what happened.

Many claimed FIFA would allow people into the stands however the security at the entrances to the games said other wise. He posted several Tweets about the migrant workers who built the stadium in Qatar as well. His last Tweet is below as he was reporting on the nightly World Cup games.

In his tweet about his rainbow shirt Grant reported that he was also detained for 25 minutes while they questioned him. They also took his phone which was never explained, why or what they were possibly looking for on his phone.

Grant was very outspoken about the atrocities taking place in Qatar and wrote on his Substack account about many of those issues. He was very vocal about the actions of the Qatar government.

Renowned soccer journalist Grant Wahl has died, the U.S. Soccer Federation reported Friday. Wahl, 48, was in Qatar covering the World Cup when he passed away.

Wahl suffered a heart attack Friday in the press box at the stadium where Argentina and Netherlands played their quarterfinal match, a person familiar with the situation told CBS News. Wahl had sent several tweets during the match.

Wahl's agent, Tim Scanlan, said that the journalist "appeared to have suffered some sort of acute distress in the press room" when the two teams began playing in extra team. Paramedics were called to the scene, Scanlan said, but were unable to revive him. He was brought to "a nearby hospital," but Scanlan was unsure how he was taken there.

"The entire U.S. soccer family is heartbroken to learn that we have lost Grant Wahl," the U.S. Soccer Federation said in a statement Friday night. "Fans of soccer and journalism of the highest quality knew we could always count on Grant to deliver insightful and entertaining stories about our game, and its major protagonists."

Wahl tackled the death of the migrant workers while they were working to build the very stadium he died in. Many wondered why the World Cup would be held in such a restrictive country. Just days prior to the games start the Qatari government announced that they wouldn't be selling beer at the games.

Many would reply to Grants Tweets some like the ones below;

I've written about the FIFA World Cup games and was wondering why sex and sexuality was brought up in the first place. Were these games hotbeds for homosexual sex? Having not been a fan of the sport I had no idea what the protocol was. Sadly now Grant has died in a country with a questionable human rights record.

Currently Grant Wahl is a trending topic on Twitter many from the sports world offering condolences, others are questioning how he died. His body was apparently not accompanied by anyone when they took him away in the ambulance from the stadium. There are currently over 300 Tweets per hour trending under his name as well as the the #RIPGrantWahl.

Hopefully more details will come out about his exact cause of death, the above mentioned story claims it was from a heart-attack even though no one is actually sure what caused the 48 year old man to die. Hopefully family members will request an independent autopsy.
