Soccer in Hockey Mecca
When you think of Canadian sports, your mind will go to a landscape that is blanketed with blinding snow. How can anyone survive here? In any Canadian province, you will find people taking to the frozen pond with sticks and skates. In the city of Montreal, ice hockey is religion. So why should anyone think of soccer in a hockey-crazed city? My counter-argument, why not? Subcultures tend to be more fascinating than what is found in the mainstream. Especially if it has the potential to unite people.

In a year where there's been a renewed interest in all things HBCU-related, Deion Sanders' hiring as the new football coach at Jackson State University was one of the biggest stories out there. The move literally changed the trajectory of SWAC media visibility and it's set the table for some pretty interesting times for HBCU football fans at the FCS level. Why Atletico Madrid?
When I tell someone that I am an Atletico Madrid fan, I get the typical "Why when Real Madrid is so much better?" with a laugh. It's not easy being an Atleti fan. There is a lot of suffering involved and lately, it has gotten a little easier. A lot has changed in these last 10 years. I think if being an Atletico fan shows you anything, it is how much love you have for them and for the game. Lets be honest-no one likes to be a fan of a team who doesn't win a trophy every year like those other two big teams in La Liga. But that to me makes it even more satisfying when they do win! So I would like to share 4 reasons with you on why you should be an Atletico Madrid fan too.

Falling from the heights
It used to be the highest football field in England. That’s the claim. The remote County Durham village of Wearhead, up in the North Pennines, was home to Wearhead United. For more than a century the team, resplendent in Red-and-White, competed on its memorably uneven pitch. The players rarely hit any great heights; this isn’t a tale of stirring cup runs and improbable title triumphs. But, at 1,017 feet above sea level, the team was proud of its geographical claim to fame.
