Tell us! How many times have you thought about shoes when starting to run initially? And if you are an experienced runner, how many have you thought about it in some depth? No doubt that Running is an excellent form of exercise. It is a boon for both the body and the mind. However, most people overlook the importance of selecting the right running shoes. We are like, “Come on, give me any pair. Why should it matter?” Many believe that any athletic shoe will suffice. And the remaining people focus solely on aesthetics. They value a pair based on how they look rather than their intended purpose. Unfortunately, both approaches are fundamentally flawed and can lead to serious injuries. Let’s learn about it once and for all.

The myth of one-size-fits-all

The first misconception about running shoes is that they are one-size-fits-all. In reality, nothing could be further from the truth. Shoes are like clothes. There is no one-size-fits-all until we have some divine technology at our hands. Running shoes come in a wide variety of shapes, sizes, and of course, styles. Each of these gets designed for a specific purpose. And also, it is not just about the shoes too.

The shape of your foot, your gait, and the type of surface you run on all have their say in determining the right pair of shoes for you. Now, you may ask what will ignoring these things give in return? Should it matter at all? Well, selecting the wrong pair can lead to blisters, shin splints, and other painful injuries. Sometimes, it may put you on months of bed rest. Now, let’s learn about a vital area: arch support.

The importance of arch support

Most of us hold this misconception that arch support is unnecessary. Some people believe that the foot is meant to function without any additional support. While it is true that the foot has natural shock-absorbing mechanisms, running places a considerable amount of stress on the feet. When running, you are not looking at evolution but how you can enhance it further. We are made to absorb running shock, but we are also made to improve things further. Without proper support, this running stress can cause plantar fasciitis. It is a painful condition that can sideline even the most dedicated runners.

Now, what about the shoe quality? Can we run using some cheap shoes?

The cost of cheap shoes

Most of us rarely invest in quality and expensive running shoes. We think that they are not worth the investment. However, the opposite is true. Quality running shoes can be expensive. We all understand this deal. But far more expensive can be the treatment cost that we bear for running injuries, not to mention the months full of bed rest.

Quality running shoes are a necessary investment in your health and fitness. Cheap shoes may seem like a good deal, but they are often made with inferior materials and lack the necessary support and cushioning. This can lead to injuries and ultimately cost you more in the long run. If cost is your concern, you may look for sites like Shopify that sell sporting goods at lower prices.

Now, here is a brief list of things to consider while buying running shoes:

  • • Know your foot type. Know if it is flat, neutral, or high-arched. This will help you choose shoes that provide the right amount of support and cushioning.
  • • Consider the type of running you do. It could be a road, trail, track, etc. Companies now design shoes that support specific purposes.
  • • Look for shoes with breathable materials to prevent overheating and reduce odor.
  • • Ensure a comfortable fit by trying on shoes with socks and testing them for length, width, and overall snugness.
  • • Do not ignore the durability area. Check it by examining the quality of materials, stitching, and sole construction.
  • • Go for lighter shoes.
  • • Don't prioritize fashion over function. Never!

When it comes to running shoes, remember that the right pair can make all the difference between pain and gain. So, get set going my good running fellas.
