Diego Armando Maradona was born on October 30, 1960, in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He began his professional career with Argentinos Juniors at the age of 16 and quickly established himself as one of the most promising young players in the country. In 1982, he moved to Barcelona, where he helped the team win the Copa del Rey and the Spanish Super Cup. However, his time at Barcelona was plagued by injuries, and in 1984 he was transferred to Napoli, where he would go on to have the most successful period of his club career. With Napoli, Maradona won the Serie A title twice, the Coppa Italia twice, and the UEFA Cup once.

Maradona also had a successful international career with the Argentine national team. He led the team to victory in the 1986 World Cup, where he scored the famous "Hand of God" goal in the quarter-finals against England and the "Goal of the Century" in the same game, a solo effort that went through several England players. He also helped Argentina win the 1983 Copa America and reach the final of the 1990 World Cup.

Off the field, he had a controversial and tumultuous personal life, he struggled with drug addiction, and was arrested multiple times for drug possession and other charges. He popularized the "elastico" move, where a player quickly changes direction by pulling the ball back with the sole of the foot. He also popularized the "no-look" pass, where a player passes the ball without looking at the intended recipient. Additionally, Maradona's leadership and passion for the game inspired many players and teams to adopt a more attacking and entertaining style of play. His performances for Napoli and Argentina in the 1980s and his leading Argentina to World cup glory in 1986 are considered as one of the greatest moments in football history.
