It had been six months since the funeral. A moving truck was parked in front of a picturesque two-storey house with rounded trim on the eaves, a window in the attic, a large sunporch, and vines growing up the front that framed the living room window. The wrap-around porch had two doors; one in front to go inside, another to access the sunporch to the left. There was a decent sized yard, more of it out back where there was a door covered by a box eave with built in shelves for wet shoes and umbrellas. A rickety swing set had been left as a monument to tenants past. It sat on the front yard facing the road and the old warehouse, equally rickety if not more so, which was just across the road.

WHOM YOU ARE BECOMING
WHOM YOU ARE BECOMING is a “child” you're “pregnant” of – in essence, it is your future self. This astounding future SELF will live and rest on the inescapable foundation you are building and establishing for it today. That “baby” you're currently carrying (i.e.,whom you're becoming) will be a replica of your tomorrow self if nothing is done today to change the outlook thereof. The truth is that there is quite a number of things that would have contributed to whom you are (identity) today either consciously or not – good and/or bad. Are you willing to die off completely to whom you have been all along in order to give birth to a new version of yourself? If you take some time to do a little bit of soul searching, you’d be marvelled at how much you’ve gotten so attached to a terrible “past” (the part of yourself that must be severed) – seeing the hindrance it is constituting to whom you're becoming. Let go of your “EX” for your “NEXT”! Are you ready to let go of everything and everybody you have held responsible for your ugly past? You must be willing to reinvent yourself unapologetically at the risk of their approval. You cannot grow and remain liked by everyone. Are you willing to do something extraordinary that your future-self will be proud of? Are you ready to “inconvenience” your entire life to buy your future? Transformation can never be obtained on a platter of gold. There will always be a price to pay when it comes to the achievement of anything worthwhile: your convenience is a price you must pay to give birth to whom you're becoming. Enough about the feelings of whom you think you can become; stop dwelling in your feelings and start doing. It is time to give birth to that unrepeatable miracle inside of you. Now is the time to push out that irreplaceable wonder in you. At the moment you may think that you're too young to invest in your future; there’s also the thought – perhaps - that you're pretty old and behind schedule already: alas, all these thoughts are nothing short of sprinkles of distraction. Do you know that you have all it takes to change the trajectory of your future for the better? Assuredly so! All you need do is activate within yourself that latent power of change this day and be wonderstruck of whom you were born to be! Bearing the consequences of your past actions is the only relationship you’ve got with whom you used to be. This is quite inevitable! In spite of that, you’re not tied down to that pillar. It’s true that the consequences may be too much to easily get rid of but your ability to re-invent yourself is what determines whom you’re becoming. Even as the mistakes of yesterday are irreversible, so is yesterday - gone forever. You can invest in today to change whom you’re becoming. It may surprise you to know that you’re unavoidably investing in yourself and every action carried out today would have an effect either positively or negatively in whom you’re becoming. There are three phases in a man’s life; his past,his present and his future. Your past is fully responsible for whom you are (your present) and your present will totally be responsible for whom you’re becoming (your future). All past actions, decisions, plans, achievements, failures, battles, victories, defeats and experiences contributed to who you are now. Here, in the present, you could be faced with two choices: (1) to endure and/or enjoy the consequences/rewards of your past OR (2) to prepare for the future unavoidably with courageous confidence. The next day, Peter found another chance to visit the old man. Upon arriving, he saw the old man still working on the same painting. As soon as the old man noticed Peter, he said, "Ah, you’ve come again! Honestly, I didn’t expect that. Welcome back, my little guest." "I was very curious to see this painting, so I came," Peter replied. "Will you finish it today?" "Absolutely!" the old man exclaimed. "But before that, you should take a tour of my humble home. Would you like that?" the old man asked with excitement. Peter eagerly nodded, but there was nothing remarkable to see in the small hut—just a broken cupboard, some canvases, and strange paintings hanging on the walls. Each painting featured a child's face. Suddenly, Peter’s foot landed on a rug, and the hollow ground beneath gave way. He fell into what seemed like a basement, pulling the old man down with him as he instinctively tried to grab his leg. Peter screamed in pain as he landed. The dimly lit space gave off a suffocating feeling as if it were not meant for any living being. He turned to see the old man lying nearby, blood spurting from his head. It seemed he had hit something metallic during the fall. The old man lay motionless. Peter tried shaking him, but there was no response. The old man was dead. The sight terrified Peter, his breathing quickened, his heart raced, and an overwhelming unease took hold of him. He thought to himself, "It's my fault he’s dead." Tears streamed down his face. Suddenly, a voice echoed, "There’s no need to cry over this wretched man. He is gone now." Startled, Peter looked in the direction of the voice. In the corner of the basement, he saw a boy of his own age, chained up. His clothes were tattered, his body emaciated, with bones protruding from under his skin. There was no glow on his face, no life in his eyes. The boy stared at Peter with an unsettling gaze. "You can free me from these chains. I won’t harm you; as you can see, I’m in no condition to," the boy pleaded. With trembling hands, Peter released the chains from the boy’s wrists and ankles. The chains had cut deep into his flesh. Once free, the boy staggered towards the old man’s lifeless body, staring at it for a long time as tears rolled down his cheeks as if regretting the very existence of the old painter in his life. He said nothing after that. Leaning on Peter's shoulder, he slowly emerged from the basement. Once outside, the boy said, "I have never enjoyed such a cold morning in my life." A soft smile appeared on his face, and his withered expression brightened. Overwhelmed with joy, he cried and hugged Peter tightly. "Thank you so much, my friend." Peter, still in shock from everything that had happened, stared at the boy with astonishment. "Who are you? Why were you chained there? Did the old man imprison you? Why?" Peter asked, his tone filled with curiosity and concern. "Who am I? I don’t know. Perhaps I don’t even have a name. As for that old man, I have no idea who he was. To me, he was nothing but a monster. He imprisoned me there and stole my life from me. That madman believed he could trap my life in a painting. He claimed he could capture anyone's life in a painting. He was insane and delusional. Perhaps he was my father. But no, because there was no mother here for me."
