From the Grimore of Livanna Thorn
A Witch character I am working on. And Ideas from her spell book.
A thousand lines circle in the air around us. Breaking and creating with each decision we make. New lines form when choices are made that were not first options in any given path. Others dissolve once a decision is past. It’s always changing and at times it’s impossible to watch them all. It feels special being able to watch them. Even if I will never know all the secrets that lie within them. Not in this life time at least. Perhaps the next. But there is one problem. There isn’t very many of us who can anymore. In part because witches are dying out. In part because no one really wants to learn about them. But I see them. And I have loved learning about them.
Even know they are above us. Swirling like the northern lights, just a little thinner and harder to see. The split and fork themselves in different directs. Some lines are thicker and easier to continue on. Like a road well paved. Others are thin and feel like your walking on a wire to even get the chance at the outcome it will bring. For me, my line was also purple. The thinnest line I could have chosen but the must beautiful.
I suppose I find myself writing about them now because I am afraid the knowledge won’t pass on and we’ll all forget about them. And well they can be dangerous. They are beautiful too. They can tell you about the future, about all the different paths you can take. And they can show you the decisions you can make. It’s impossible to look at them all, and that’s how a witch can lose herself. When she focuses too much on her own lines and the life she wants. But for the witch who uses them as a tool, sees them as something that can played with. The she can weave a line of her own design.
To Weave is to build on the lines you like. To meld them together, or to jump from line to another all together. It’s both a light and dark craft. For anything you can use for yourself and for good. You can use for evil and to harm. So well I fear the death of this knowledge, there is a chance for it to be safe from those who wish to abuse it. But then again. I have only ever wanted to provide the knowledge and not judge those who use it. I myself have been using the lines for years for my own design. And there are plenty of people who would think what I do is a crime. How I have bent the very fabric of my life. But that’s not the point. I’ll tell you that story another day. The story of my purple line and soul mate. No we don’t have time right now. I have to explain the lines. The basics of it.
The Greeks had their version. As did the Celtics and the North. How life could be measured in a single line. How the line began at one point and then would be cut at another point. But they never really mentioned how the line got to that point. It makes it seem rather fatalistic. And to some that may be a comfort. One path, one way. To others it’s a cage. And so I offer another path. One where you must learn to see the lines. See the potential and learn to change your line by the decisions you make. But you can’t let yourself get lost. You have to play enough within the current present moment. That the future doesn’t escape you. It’s no different then tarot cards. The lines will show you the path, you have to decide if you want to stay on it.
I know you want to see them. And you will. I’ll tell you more when I can.
