We're Lying About Reading Now?. Top Story - July 2026.
Out of all the things I expected there to be controversy about online, I didn’t think reading would be one of them. I mean come on, it’s reading. It’s a fun hobby for some, a livelihood for others, something we’ve all done for school and even for pleasure. It seems asinine for there to be any controversy about reading.

Where Have all the Epics Gone?. Top Story - July 2026.
With the recent debut of Christopher Nolan's take on Homer's classic tale, I've had a lot of time to reflect on the modern view of classical literature, particularly the ancient trend of the epic poem. Does the world even understand the methods of writing that Homer employed, or do we simply grab for the nearest copy of the Cliff Notes, NIV edition to help with the digestion of what we often mistake as complex and archaic?

Rachel Reviews: A Rock and a Hard Place by J.D. Kirk. Top Story - June 2026.
I do love a good police thriller and let's be honest, there are lots of them out there so when my mum recommended this to me, I was skeptical about whether it would take me anywhere that I hadn't been before in terms of my police detective reading experience.

Moments of Craft in “The Dream Hotel” by Laila Lalami. Top Story - May 2026.
Moments of Craft is a series of essays where I share examples of excellent writing in books I read. The Dream Hotel is an incredible literary sci-fi novel with literary fiction inclinations, like deep character work. I’m an MFA grad, and I try to pay attention to moments of excellent craft in every book I read.

"Igi" by Jemal Karchkhadze. Top Story - April 2026.
I don't remember when I last read a short book packed with deep philosophical meaning. Perhaps Camus' "Stranger" or Nietzsche's "God is Dead" back in my university years. Igi will stay with me for a long time, I'm sure.

Rousseau's Last Tour. Top Story - March 2026.
This was a strange comfort to me these last few weeks. Actually, more than a few weeks. I began this book at the beginning of the year, and put it aside as I realized that I was reading not a fictional account of a life, but the very true thoughts of a writer who has put his fingerprints over much of what I know of French thought in that era.

A Visitor's Guide To Victorian England. Top Story - March 2026.
A Book Review Being interested in all things Victorian, I am constantly looking for books on the Victorian Era. In fact, I should admit that I am obsessed about ‘all things Victorian’. From the clothes worn by men and women, rich or poor, to how they lived, where they lived, what they ate and would (or would not ) drink, what kind of transport there was, who worked where, who went to school (and who didn’t), the list really is endless.

Rachel Reviews: Lakefront Wolves by Joseph Deegan. Top Story - March 2026.
Meet Finn. He's an 18 year old kid who has potential. He's bright with great school scores and he's also an athlete, a footballer of some prowess. He has it all going for him, it would seem, and yet, he's determined to send what could be a well-planned, stable existence firmly off the rails. He drinks, he smokes, he takes drugs, he has violent tendencies and he's in danger of losing not only his mind but all that he holds dear.
