As per usual when a book beomes a film adaptation there is going to be significant differences. For someone whose never read the book and only viewed the movie , the changes would cause no difference. However for avid readers like myself whose read all the books and watched the movie , find it easy to pick out the different varitions.

In this article i'll be writing about not all but a mere few differences I picked up on in Part One of the hunger games.

1. The mocking Jay Pin.

One of the first major variations of the book versus the movie is how Katniss acquired the soon tho be well known mockingjay pin.

Movie: For instance in the movie after Katniss finishes her hunting for the day , she is seen to be trading at the hob. The hob is District Twelves Black Market. While Trading she picks up the pin and asks stall owner greasy sae what it is. Upon asking how much it is sae tells her to keep it free of charge.

Book: However the books version is much more elaborate.School mate Madge also known as the mayors daughter gifts her the mocking jay pin before the reaping.

In either case Katniss then goes on to gift the pin to her little sister Prim who is about to participate in her first reaping.

Fun Fact: Madge was a larger story line in not only the first book , but the second book as well. In the book we learn Madges aunt Maysilee Donner who died while in the games with Haymitch, was the original owner of the mockingjay pin. I was throughly disappointed that Madge was cut from the film world of The Hunger Games all together.

2.Thresh and Katniss Encounter

Movie: Thresh saves Katniss from from District twos female tribute Clove. Clove is taunting her about how her and her friends killed little Rue. Upon hearing this out of nowhere Thresh angrily rips Clove off of Katniss. He then makes quick work killing Clove by slamming her against the cornucopia thus breaking her neck. He rounds on Katniss and says " Just this once 12 , for Rue " before running off again.

Book: In the book version Thresh actually smashes Cloves head with a rock before turning apon Katniss with the rock still raised. He Questions Katniss asking what Clove was talking about. Katniss explains she allied with Rue and was her friend. She tells Thresh that she sang Rue to sleep( death) in her final moments. Thresh as a thank you for what she did for Rue lets Katniss go claiming they are now even.

3. The Avoxs

Movie: In the movie the avoxs are not mentioned in the first and second instalment. It isn't until the third instalment Mockingjay that they are mentioned.

Book: The first hunger games goes into a deep dive of an avox when Katniss recognizes a female avox. This Avox used to be a girl Katniss and Gale had seen fleeing one day while out hunting one day in the woods. Instead of helping they stood back and watched as the girl was taken by the capitol and her male companion murdered on sight.

4. Greasy Sae

Movie: Greasy Sae was only shown once in the first movie. The film made her character not as significant as the books did

Book: The book gives her character more significance as Greasy Sae actually returned to district 12 after the war and became a caretaker for Katniss , Peeta and Haymtich.

5. Peetas Leg.

Another minor difference is Peetas leg.

Movie: Catos severly Injures Peetas Leg but after the games with the capitols medice it is fully healed.

Book: However in the movie Peetas leg is too far damages by Cato and without having the proper medical treatment , he goes on to lose his leg. In the books he goes on to have a prosthetic Leg.

I personally feel the books version is more realistic with the amount of damage that was done to his leg.

Although there are many more difference these are the ones that stood out most. Thank you for taking the time to read this. To know when I post click the follow button and if you really like what you read then please leave a tip.
