The next two textbook reviews are the final two that are dealing with becoming a Doctor of Nursing Practice. The first one is reviewing the book 'Health Policy Crisis and Reform' and the second one is a review of 'Health Policy and Politics'. Both of these books were very interesting to read and review.

'Health Policy Crisis and Reform' is the Sixth edition and it is an anthology of articles created by several authors and editors named as follows: Carroll L. Estes, Susan A. Chapman, Catherine Dodd, Brooke Hollister, Charlene Harrington. What I expected to see in this book were articles strictly about nursing in all aspects, but found that it would and could be used in education, counseling, and social work areas. The textbook is well-structured and easy to read for the authors and editors set up the book into sections (units) and chapters that can be used by the nurses, teachers, counselors and social workers and even by governmental agencies.

There is no offensive materials presented and appropriate to be used as reference material. As stated this is an anthology of articles about health policy and how the policies affect many areas of living and learning in many situations that cover the micro, mezzo and macro levels of society or better known as individual, groups and governmental areas to help all kinds of people. Technical aspects of this text are as mentioned easy to read and the 'bulk' of the book is of median weight but will fit in a backpack and carry to wherever you need.

Soe of the topics covered in the book could be controversial depending on the time and where and how the topic(s) are discussed. This is also a text that could be used as a supplemental textbook to go along with another classroom textbook in related fields. The content answered many questions and explained other areas as dealing with various insurances and insurance issues. Other areas that articles cover deal with children and aging issues. There are various charts to help explain these various subject areas and in reading and reviewing this book I learned a lot from these authors and editors.

______________

Health Policy and Politics A Nurse's Guide this is the fourth edition that I read and reviewed and it was written by Jeri A. Milstead and it is a textbook that will show and tell nurses how to work as an emissary for nursing in governmental agencies locally, state and federal settings. To begin I thought it would be a very boring read, but actually the book was very interesting. The book starts out with an introduction and review of the basics of government and the making of a 'Bill'. When I read this I automatically remember the old 'Schoolhouse Rock' - 'America Rock' on 'I'm Only a Bill' cartoon. The textbook then moves on to how a nurse can become a better part of the system in many or all respects. It is all about making policy from agenda setting and playing the government's game, learning policy design, implementation, evaluation, networking, and even using the internet. By the way it does include an Online Access Code and a companion website. The last three chapters cover Global connections, economics and finance and educating policy nurses. There are also discussion points and activities as well as case studies for all to learn for various kinds of situations and programs.

The technical aspects of this book is that the print is very small using a fine print typeface, but it is easy to read in a well-lighted space. It is also well-structured and for anyone interested in helping nurses improve their standing in society. There are lists, diagrams, and charts that do help to explain all the facets of working in the government. The content of the book is fully satisfying for I learned a lot from this interesting book. Each chapter has a list of terms with definitions at the beginning of each chapter to introduce them as a review or a new word. There is no offensive language used in the book. No other materials seem to be needed unless you or your teacher would like to use 'Health Policy Crisis and Reform' as a supplement to this textbook, but that is up to the instructor. It is a small book and easy to carry and fit into any backpack or briefcase and still have plenty of room for other books and materials that you may happen to need.

(Please read, comment, subscribe and tip for all would be very much appreciated.)
