Removing skin layers to reduce wrinkles or abnormal congestion is an effective way to get smoother, more youthful skin. Dermabrasion (remotely cutting layers) and chemical peels (melting skin remotely) are two traditional methods used for skin rejuvenation. Additional techniques have been used to repair premature aging skin. These include the following:

Laser skin rejuvenation

Laser skin rejuvenation is a way to reduce wrinkles on the face and abnormalities caused by sun damage or acne. The laser process directs the light beams, which are fixed to the abnormal skin. The regeneration of laser skin removes the skin precisely, layer by layer, which promotes the growth of new collagen fibers. This laser method also leads to a few problems with hypopigmentation (skin lightening). Non-ablative laser implants improve the formation of new healthy collagen, which helps to restore skin tone and appearance during minimal rest. Fractional laser technology is available. The laser beam is delivered to a grid that allows normal, untreated skin to remain in the treated area, resulting in faster healing.

You are an eligible laser skin scanner if you have:

• Fine lines under or near the eyes, forehead, or mouth

• Wrinkles under or near the eyes, forehead, or mouth

• Scarring scars

• Unresponsive skin after facial lifting

If you have active acne, you should wait until your acne is properly controlled before following laser treatment. Patients newly treated with Accutane® should wait at least six months after their final dose before the laser appears. Laser rejuvenation is usually best for people with light complexion, as people with darker skin have a higher risk of augmentation (darkening of the skin) with certain medications. Exposure to the sun after this treatment should be avoided for three months.

Botulinum toxin type A (Botox®) injection)

Botox® is a drug based on botulinum toxin. It prevents the chemical signals that make the muscles work. Botox is applied to the muscles by its wrinkles that cause wrinkles, such as between the eyebrows (wrinkle lines) and the lines coming out of the corner of the eye (crow's feet). Botox effects usually last for 3 to 4 months. When Botox is depleted, the muscles will regenerate and wrinkles will begin to change. Treatment will then be repeated. If you choose not to repeat the injections, your wrinkles will return to normal.

There may be temporary redness, bruising, or itching near the Botox injection sites. In extremely rare cases, there may be a small lid droop a few days after the injection, but all reported side effects are temporary.

Fillers

Wrinkles that stay at rest may need to be replenished to replenish or elevate degenerative skin. Prominent folds around the mouth, nose and chin are the most commonly treated. Hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring polymer of sugar, is the most common supplement used. Most fillings are temporary, providing improvement in about 4 to 6 months, during which treatment may need to be repeated. Side effects can include bruising, temporary swelling, and pain.

Face lift

Facial lifting is a surgical procedure in which excess skin and fat are removed from the face and neck. Tightening of the muscle and connective tissue is also performed. Results usually last 7 to 10 years.

Sun Injury: Prevention and treatment

Sun exposure should be minimized to prevent further wrinkles and damage to the sun. Daily use of sunscreen is very important for protection. There are treatments for repairing premature aging skin including topical retinoids and glycolic acid. If there is severe damage, photodynamic treatments (blue light) and / or topical chemotherapy creams such as 5-fluorouracil are also sometimes used.
