Even if you have always valued skincare, it is a given that it would gain a lot more importance once you have entered your 40s. It is perfectly normal to be uncomfortable and concerned with the idea of aging, but if you stick to a proper skincare routine during this time, you will be able to age gracefully and also keep the largest organ in your body healthy. It should be noted that there is nothing that can be done to completely prevent aging, but following a good routine can minimize the signs and keep you looking younger and fresh. Here are some tips that you can use for maintaining your skin after 40s:

Exfoliate

If you want your skin to glow in your 40s, you will have to exfoliate more regularly than you did before because skin turnover is slower in the early decades. Exfoliation products, such as peels can be immensely helpful, along with peptides, Vitamin C and Retin-A. You can opt for professional peels and use scrubs in between.

Drinking water

It is exceptionally important that you drink lots of water every day for your overall health. It is good for your energy levels, organs and also your skin. When you hydrate internally, it can help your skin hold onto moisture and this becomes important as you get older because your skin is not able to automatically retain moisture, as it did before.

Paying attention to the neck

Skincare routine in the 40s doesn’t mean that you just focus on your face; it also includes your neck. Moisturize your neck and put sunscreen on it everyday. Any products that you apply on your face, such as moisturizer and nighttime serum, should also go on your neck.

Consider professional treatments

You may not be interested in getting professional treatments, but those like light therapy, can be immensely helpful in taking care of the signs of aging. According to experts at Celluma, light therapy can be helpful in getting rid of anything pigmented on your skin, such as melasma, broken capillaries, and rosacea and sun damage. Moreover, they can also minimize wrinkles and fine lines, acne scars, enlarged pores and stimulate collagen production, which can tighten your skin. This can take years of your skin and slowdown the process of aging.

Use sunscreen

No skincare routine is complete without the use of regular sunscreen. Using sunblock can help your skin improve over time. Not only is it good for prevention, but sunscreen can also be handy in changing sensitivity and pigmentation associated with retinol use and minimizing sunspots.

Moisturizers and antioxidants

When looking at skincare products to use in your 40s, look for ones that contain antioxidants and are moisturizing. This makes your skin happy and healthy because they can fight off free radicals. They help in the production of elastin and collagen and prevent oxidative stress that can keep your skin glowing.

Sleep well

There is no doubt that sleep is of the utmost importance for your overall physical, emotional and mental health, but it is even more vital in regard to skincare in your 40s. Even a little bit of stress or late night can show up on your skin, so you should get a full night’s sleep, exercise and eat well to keep your skin glowing.

Focus on the eyes

Eyes will change visibly and noticeably in your 40s, but things can be done to address these changes. There are procedures that can be performed, but if you don’t want to go for it, using an eye cream is a good idea.
