Celebrities and other people's pictures on social media are now jumping on this popular trend - full pouty lips. The rage is about lip implants, and they don't seem to be going anytime soon. This plastic surgeon outpatient operation is getting more normal, but that doesn't mean it's risk-free. There is a lot more about lip injections than pleasing the eye, from temporary bleeding to permanent tissue death. Make sure you have all the facts before you start opting for a pouty lip.

They Could Cause Tissue Damage

There is a possibility every time you insert a foreign material into your body. An injection may also inflict tissue injury to your lips.

"Necrosis is the largest concern with any form of filler injections, implying the filler has been inserted into a blood vessel and induced tissue death," Dr. Winnie Moses, Founder & Medical Director of Parfaire Medical Aesthetics, said. "It's a really uncommon complication, but it does happen. It's also really necessary to locate a well-qualified and well-trained care provider."

Be sure to visit an experienced doctor to inquire about all the potential side effects once you are ready for your lip injection.

It Last Six To Nine Months

This may sound naive, but others just thought it was a lifelong treatment to get lip injections. In fact, however, they last less than a year. "Due to constant lip movement, most lip fillers last between six to nine months," Dr. Moses said. Newer fillers that will last up to a year are available. "Ask your doctor about your options and how long each one lasts." Since we use our lips to chat, chew, and drink all day long, most fillers are not permanent.

Duck Lips Mean Something Went Wrong

You wouldn't know it from many celebrities' selfies, but duck lips are an accident. The product of an inappropriate positioning of the filler is duck lips.

"Risks include over-injection, swelling, irregular injection, and filler palpable or filler clumping. The injection can also produce 'duck lip' instead of good fullness in the wrong place for the intended reason," Cosmetic Surgeon Haideh Hirmand said. "Intravascular injection can cause blood flow complications to a certain lip region."

There Are Less Invasive Options

So if you're interested in a bigger lip, what do you do but don't want to live with the doctor's appointments and potential side effects? To try first, there are a few alternative suggestions.

"The placing of lip liner and blush, lip moisturizers such as balms, topical hyaluronic acids and even some notorious lip plumpers that produce a suction effect to briefly enlarge the lips are less invasive alternatives," Stan Kovak, MD, founder of Kovak Dermatology & Laser Institute, said.

Dr. Hirmand decided to pursue each of these alternatives. She explained, 'Lip plumper, lip liner, and lipstick are less invasive choices.

You Could Have An Allergic Reaction

You may have an allergic reaction to lip injections, just as in any medical procedure. It is uncommon, but it needs to be taken into account.

The advised by Dr. Kovak was, "More severe side effects can occur, such as prolonged bleeding or swelling, lumps and bumps around the injection site, inflammation, lip asymmetry, an allergic reaction to the product causing increased swelling or scratching, and even ulceration and lip scarring." Speak to the doctor about these more extreme responses when you start some operation and what treatment it would require if you had an allergy.

Permanent Fillers Can Cause Permanent Problems

Fortunately, it's possible to reverse much of the possible side effects of lip injections. "Over-filling is the most common downside to lip injections," Cosmetic Surgeon Marc Mani said. "This provides an unnatural appearance that only a few people really like. Hyaluronic acid fillers can be removed with an enzyme called hyaluronidase, so this is not a lasting concern."

There are also more permanent options, in addition to the regular fillers that last six to nine months. These permanent choices will, however, trigger extreme side effects. "Permanent fillers such as silicone will permanently damage lips and sometimes do so," Dr. Mani warned. "And though it is to be infused with the right amount of silicone, the body responds with inflammation that can permanently deform the lips. Infection is still a possibility, although very small."

Always Go To a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon

It is also likely, even though the risk of side effects is minimal. That is why turning to an accomplished plastic surgeon is important. You don't want to head into the clearance area of clinics when it comes to your face.

Any of the complications include people not being pleased with the outcome of their injector, so it is important to see an experienced injector such as a board-certified plastic surgeon, "Joshua D. Zuckerman, board-certified plastic surgeon, stated." Any outcome of lumps, bruises, or unevenness is likely to make the patient dissatisfied. For one to two days after surgery, there may be swelling, but it soon subsides.

There is a relatively low chance of a patient being allergic to the filler of hyaluronic acid. The office of a board-certified specialist would be able to apply a drug to reverse the filler. The biggest reason for a patient to see a board-certified cosmetic surgeon or dermatologist for treatment is this likely allergy. While lip injections sound like a straightforward process, you still need to insert a drug into your body. See a doctor you trust.

They're Not For Everyone

While lip injections are relatively healthy and have a low chance of side effects, they are not ideal for all. "Lip fillers are not for everyone," Dr. Mani warned. "They can make a huge difference for someone with very thin lips, but the more you apply, the more the lips have artificial firmness. If someone has lips that are already full, but just a little shaping, tiny doses of filler can look fantastic."

Chat about your personal records, fears, and expectations for the operation with your surgeon. Always do your homework without feeling absolutely secure in your judgment, and never rush in. They are your lips, so believe only in the very best.
