It is appropriate for us skincare users to know the different types of skincare on the market, ranging from creams that are usually divided into night creams and day creams, to differences in essence and serum. At first glance for the layman, the two are considered the same, whereas the difference in the name means the two are not exactly the same. Let's take a look at the difference between essence and serum in this article.

Basically essence and serum have a similar function, which is the same leveling the face tone to overcome fine lines on the face, the active ingredients also have a high concentration when compared to other products. However, there are still differences between the two, which need to be known so as not to be mistaken in their use.

1. The difference between Essence and Serum: viscosity

Although the same made from water, but the level of viscosity serum is more concentrated than essence, and essence is more diluted than serum, but Essence is more concentrated than toner, if sorted then Essence is between Toner and Serum.

2. Different functions

When looking at the function, essence is more liquid because its function is more to help the absorption of the next skincare product in the order of use, which is why Essence is lighter, because it aims to maximize the absorption of the next skincare substance so that it is more potent.

3. Order of use

Seeing the different functions above, then from the order of use is also different, it is recommended to use Essence first, then use the serum afterwards. If it is complete, then the sequence is to use a facial cleanser or toner first, then continue using essence, and after that just use the serum.

4. Intensity of use

After knowing the order of use, it is also worth knowing the advice of experts stating that the two do not need to be used together, due to their similar nature. But because of its thicker texture, serum should only be used once a day, e.g. morning or night, while lighter essence can be used morning and night.

Well, now that we understand the difference between essence and serum, then we can choose if we want to use both, in order, or based on their function. If you have sensitive skin you should use a lighter and safer essence for all types of faces. Whereas if there are specific problems on the face, it is best to use a serum that has a variety of functions to overcome your specific problems.
