We are comfortable in our skin
Marcus Garvey once said the black skin is not a badge of shame but rather a glorious symbol of national greatness. Ever since I had a phone, I tried to convince myself that I do not take selfies because I simply do not like them. The purpose of taking a selfie is to display a mood or expression while you are doing an activity or asked to do something. People take selfies in front of mirrors, in their bedrooms, or in their cars. You can take a selfie anywhere at any time but if ever looked at my old account which was hacked and someone stole all my photos, there were not that many selfies. I have always had this delusion that a selfie is not how you are feeling but how you look. I never liked to take a selfie because I do not like my face. My parents would always tell me that I was a pretty girl. It is not that I do not feel like I am pretty but there is something on my face that takes away from my beauty. Those dark little spots that spread across my cheeks. Do not let my profile picture fool you! Makeup is like magic for women. I use the same photos whenever I create an account for a website. Those photos are the best versions of me. I was never bullied in school for my acne because they did not notice enough to care. I must blame myself for why those dark little spots keep coming back. I drink a bottle of water whenever I can, but I would only drink it if it were nice and cold. I apply Panxoyl on my face in the morning, but I have not been consistent with the product this year. Sometimes I am afraid of using the cream because I do not want people to think that I am lightning my skin. It is different for a white person to use a product that helps with their skin problems than it is for a black person. Anytime that a black woman is using something that helps with her skin, she is accused of not loving herself. It is the same phrase: she does not want to be a black woman! When I see a video of a darker or brown skinned woman showing the before and after, some of the comments disappointed me. Black women who want to take care of their skin should not be frowned upon. It is important that we have proper skincare because our skin is the largest barrier against infections. I never knew that there were a lot of things that affected your skin other than sugary foods and drinks such as pillowcases, hard water, and your keyboard. I understand that our skin is not desired in society, and I have accepted that harsh truth but allow us to take care of ourselves without criticism. You must give us the right to self-care without judging our appearances because you feel that if something changes about ourselves, then we are insecure and do not get me wrong! I can be insecure sometimes, but it is not just about my skin. I get jealous of someone who has published their novel before me. I get jealous of those who have accomplished their writing goals. At the end, I am happy for those people, and I wish the best for them because I do not have that much hate in my heart to tear down the success of others. I want people to win in life, and I feel like people should want what is best for us.

When You Have Dark Spots Use This For A Smooth Skin
When You Have Dark Spots Use This For A Smooth Skin Dark spots, also known as hyperpigmentation, can occur on the skin due to various reasons such as sun exposure, hormonal changes, acne scars, or aging. If you're looking to achieve a smooth skin complexion and reduce the appearance of dark spots, there are several effective treatments and skincare practices that can help. In this article, we will explore some recommendations for achieving a smoother skin when dealing with dark spots. Sun Protection: One of the most crucial steps in reducing and preventing dark spots is protecting your skin from the harmful effects of the sun. UV rays can worsen existing dark spots and trigger the production of melanin, leading to further hyperpigmentation. Apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher to all exposed areas of skin, even on cloudy days. Reapply sunscreen every two hours, especially if you're outdoors for an extended period. Additionally, consider wearing protective clothing, such as wide-brimmed hats and long sleeves, and seek shade during peak sun hours. Gentle Cleansing: Keeping your skin clean is essential for a smooth complexion. Opt for a gentle cleanser that suits your skin type and doesn't strip away natural oils. Harsh cleansers can disrupt the skin barrier and exacerbate dark spots. Cleanse your face twice daily, in the morning and evening, using lukewarm water and a gentle, non-abrasive cleanser. Avoid scrubbing your skin aggressively, as this can further irritate dark spots and cause inflammation. Exfoliation: Regular exfoliation can help remove dead skin cells and promote a smoother skin texture. However, when dealing with dark spots, it's important to choose gentle exfoliation methods to avoid causing further damage. Chemical exfoliants, such as alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) or beta hydroxy acids (BHAs), can be effective in fading dark spots. They work by exfoliating the upper layer of the skin and promoting cell turnover. Start with a low concentration and gradually increase as your skin tolerates it. Exfoliate no more than two to three times per week to avoid over-exfoliation, which can lead to skin sensitivity and irritation. Vitamin C: Vitamin C is a potent antioxidant that can help brighten the skin and fade dark spots. Look for skincare products containing stable forms of vitamin C, such as L-ascorbic acid or ascorbyl glucoside. These formulations can help reduce melanin production and even out skin tone. Apply a vitamin C serum or cream onto cleansed skin once or twice daily, following the instructions provided by the product. Remember to store vitamin C products in a cool, dark place to maintain their potency. Retinoids: Retinoids, derived from vitamin A, are highly effective in treating various skin concerns, including dark spots. They work by promoting cell turnover, reducing the appearance of pigmentation, and stimulating collagen production. Prescription-strength retinoids, such as tretinoin, are available, but over-the-counter retinol products can also provide significant benefits. Start with a low concentration and gradually increase usage as your skin adjusts. Apply retinoids at night and use sunscreen during the day, as they can increase skin sensitivity to the sun. Hydroquinone: Hydroquinone is a topical ingredient commonly used for treating hyperpigmentation. It works by inhibiting the production of melanin in the skin. Hydroquinone products are available over-the-counter or by prescription, depending on the concentration. If using over-the-counter products, follow the instructions carefully and avoid using them for prolonged periods. If you prefer prescription-strength hydroquinone, consult a dermatologist who can provide guidance and monitor your progress. Natural Remedies: Several natural ingredients have been traditionally used to address dark spots and promote a smoother skin complexion. These include: a. Aloe Vera: Known for its soothing properties, aloe vera can help fade dark spots and even out skin tone. Apply fresh aloe vera gel directly to the affected areas and leave it on for 15-20 minutes before rinsing off. b. Lemon Juice: Lemon juice contains natural acids that can lighten dark spots. Dilute lemon juice with water and apply it to the affected areas using a cotton ball. Leave it on for 10-15 minutes and rinse off. However, be cautious as lemon juice can be irritating to some individuals, and prolonged sun exposure after application can cause skin sensitivity. c. Licorice Extract: Licorice extract has skin-lightening properties and can be found in various skincare products. Look for products containing licorice extract or apply a licorice root extract topically to the affected areas. d. Green Tea Extract: Green tea is rich in antioxidants and can help reduce inflammation and protect the skin against UV damage. Apply cooled, steeped green tea bags or use skincare products containing green tea extract to target dark spots. Moisturization: Keeping your skin well-hydrated is essential for overall skin health and can contribute to a smoother complexion. Choose a moisturizer suitable for your skin type and apply it twice daily, after cleansing and treating your skin. Look for moisturizers containing ingredients like hyaluronic acid, ceramides, or niacinamide, which can help improve the skin's moisture barrier and enhance its appearance. Professional Treatments: In cases where dark spots are stubborn or widespread, professional treatments can provide more intensive results. Consult a dermatologist or skincare professional who can recommend suitable options based on your specific needs. Some common treatments include: a. Chemical Peels: Chemical peels involve the application of a chemical solution to the skin, which exfoliates the top layers and stimulates new skin growth. They can help fade dark spots and improve overall skin texture. b. Microdermabrasion: This procedure uses a device to gently exfoliate the outermost layer of the skin, revealing a fresher, smoother complexion. Microdermabrasion can help diminish the appearance of dark spots and improve skin tone. c. Laser Therapy: Various laser treatments, such as intense pulsed light (IPL) or fractional lasers, can target dark spots and promote a more even skin tone. Laser therapy works by breaking down excess pigmentation and stimulating collagen production. d. Cryotherapy: Cryotherapy involves freezing the dark spots using liquid nitrogen, which causes the spots to slough off over time. This treatment is particularly useful for smaller dark spots or localized areas of hyperpigmentation. Consistency and Patience: Achieving a smoother skin and reducing dark spots requires consistency and patience. It's important to establish a skincare routine that incorporates the recommended practices and treatments suitable for your skin type. Results may not be immediate, and it may take several weeks or months to notice significant improvements. Be consistent with your chosen skincare products and treatments, and allow your skin time to adjust and respond positively. Remember, individual results may vary, and it's always a good idea to consult with a dermatologist or skincare professional, especially if you have severe hyperpigmentation or if your dark spots are accompanied by other concerning symptoms. They can provide personalized advice and recommend the most suitable treatment options for your specific skin concerns.
