Nail Polishes

Every nail polish lover’s worst dream is their favorite nail colors drying up. Those thick and gloppy nail lacquers are not only difficult to apply but also translate into a weird and non-appealing finish on nails.

Okay, wait wait. Let’s not recount the horrors of having dry nail paint bottles. Let’s talk about solutions. Here we give you some easy tips that will prevent your beloved nail polishes from drying. Apart from preventive tips, we will also reveal secret hacks that will restore your nail lacquers that have begun to dry. Read on.

Keep the cap on always: Tightening the cap on your nail polish bottles when you are not using them is the most important rule you need to remember. It also applies to the time when you are applying your nail paint. So, while you wait for your first coat to dry, make sure that you put the cap on and tighten it. This way your nail polish will not come in contact with air and become dry quickly.

Warm up the bottle: Taking the bottle between your palms and rolling it between them every now and then will give a sudden shake/movement to the nail polish color. This will prevent your nail lacquers from staying still and stagnant and makes their consistencies free-flowing and fluid.

Store in a cool area: If you want your nail paints to preserve their fluid-like consistency, always store them in an area that is dark and cool. Keep your nail lacquers strictly away from heat and light as these tend to dry out the formulations. Avoid sunlight too for it not only dries out your nail lacquer but also damages the color and adversely affects the texture of the nail paint.

Clean off the mess: Another sure-shot way to keep dryness at bay is by cleaning off the mess that collects around the mouth of nail polish bottles. You must have noticed how thick the layers of gunk are around the neck of nail paint bottles. These layers obstruct the cap from sealing the bottle due to which the air tends to get in. You can remove those layers by scrubbing a cotton Q-tip soaked in nail polish remover against them. Once all the dried nail polish is off the bottle, you can wipe the leftovers with a tissue to reveal an absolutely clean surface.

Use a lacquer thinner: A lacquer thinner is a great way to restore nail polishes that have started to dry. Yes, you don’t need to throw dry nail lacquers right away. You could bring them to life just by adding a few drops of the thinner. Just be careful while handling the lacquer thinner and ensure that you are doing this task in a ventilated space. If you don’t have a lacquer thinner, you could opt for a nail polish remover too but remember to add just a few drops of it instead of going overboard.

Use nail polishes often: Try to use all your nail paints before their consistencies go thick and the textures get spoilt. You will often notice that nail polishes that are left unused for a long time end up becoming thick in texture. A fun way to make sure that you are wearing all your nail polishes is to assign a nail polish to every week. This way you will be able to spice up your nail polish routine on a weekly basis and also use all the nail paints that you have in your vanity.

Give nail lacquers a hot bath: You could immerse your nail polish bottle in a bowl of hot water. This will help in making the consistency thinner and more fluid. Leave the nail polish bottle in for around 3-4 minutes in the hot water. After doing this, you can again warm up the nail polish bottle between your palms. But make sure you are careful while doing this process as the bottle will become extremely hot after coming in contact with the water.

So these are some easy-peasy tricks to keep your favorite nail polishes fresh and fluid. If you are shopping for nail polishes online, make sure that you are keeping these hacks in mind and getting the aforementioned extra supplies as well.
