The 3 Simple Steps to the Best-Looking You

Skincare is a term that may scare some people as they see it as a long, drawn out process that must be strictly followed day and night, no ifs, ands or buts; however that is the farthest thing from the truth. Now, depending on your skin type, you may need varying products but overall, skincare is something that should be enjoyable as you're essentially preserving your skin and protecting it. Whether you have oily, dry, combination, or sensitive skin (perhaps you feel as if it's all three) there is a simple 3-step process that—yes, bear with me—should be followed day and night. Once you start doing these three simple steps you'll instantly be seeing a change in the way your skin looks and feels.

Step One: Cleanse

Cleansing your face. So important, but yet people tend to just not worry about it or, just equally as bad, use a bar of soap (it strips the skin of all the natural oils. STOP!) You have to find the right cleanser and use it two times every day, once in the morning and once at night before bed. It's essential in your daily routine as it removes any of the bad, gross bacteria that builds up on your face over time. However, don't overdo it. People tend to think that the more you wash your face the cleaner it is, but essentially all that does is remove your body's natural oils and healthy cells. It's too much for your skin, so sticking to two times a day, at max three, is ideal. Finding that perfect cleanser is at times a step-by-step process as there are literally hundreds out there and different ingredients react differently on people's skin. I'll talk more in depth in an upcoming article on the different cleansers that I would highly recommend and some others that I would highly advise you to not put in your shopping cart.

Step Two: Tone

This is an essential step that most people, whether new to skincare or not, seem to look over or just simply forget. Toning is essential in creating that perfect, healthy, glowing skin that you're striving to achieve! It not only picks up any debris left behind that you may have missed when cleansing but it also resets the skin's pH levels which typically get thrown out of whack by your daily activities. Some toners, depending on what your skin needs, will also provide instant hydration to dry skin. Immediately after you cleanse your face and pat it dry (don't wipe, as most towels aren't very gentle to the face) grab your toner, put it on a cotton ball, and wipe over your entire face, avoiding your eye area.

Step Three: Moisturize

Moisturizer should be the final step in your daily routine and is a very important one! Without moisturizing your face you leave it dry and parched even if it doesn't look or feel like it and, in return, your body will produce its own oils in an attempt to hydrate your skin, leaving you looking oily and greasy. Also, don't forget to get an eye cream as it will help repair wrinkles, puffiness, and dark circles under the eyes if you have them or prevent them if you're not quite there yet.

Step Four: Treatment

Since this step is completely optional I chose not to include it in the three essentials, since some people opt not to use any form of treatment. Treatment can come in the form of a serum or an oil (yes, they do make dry oils for the face in order to hydrate without looking greasy). Depending on what you want to fight or prevent will determine what type of treatment you should use.
