We’ve all been there. Waking up and knowing immediately that there’s just not enough time to fix your hair and look, at the least, semi-human. You’re running late and can’t even imagine taking a comb to your hair. On those days wigs usually come in handy, even if we’re not so thrilled about rocking the particular wig style. I know. It can suck.

The real issue, however, is that most of us do not know what it takes to churn out cool hairstyles in the blink of an eye. For most, like me, it’s simply a lack of skill. But for others, you just don’t know. So, if you’re up for pulling off some effortless and classy hairstyles, not having to rely on wigs all the time, there’s hope for you yet. Plus, there are even options for hairstyling no-talents like me.

The Braids & Headband Duo

This is perhaps the easiest hairstyle you could ever come up with when wearing braids. Sis! You do not even need to sweat it. Simply grab a headband, tilt your head backward and let your headband sit beautifully on those braids, keeping hair out of your face. In less than one minute, you’ll be as good as new.

The Braids & Scarf Duo

This is similar to the braids and headband duo, except that rather than using a headband, you’ll use a scarf. There are several reasons for which a scarf may be more appropriate— it could be a themed event, you may not own a headband, your headband may have gone missing, or maybe the color simply doesn’t fit. Whatever the case may be, just fold your scarf several times until you achieve the desired width, wrap it around your braids, knot at the back, or in front as you wish, and voila, your hair is all set. You can add a twist to it by bringing the scarf all the way to the front and making a bow. Statement headpiece, huh? I like the sound of that!

Oversized High Bun

This style reminds me of those days in college when I was running late for class, lol! Whether you’re wearing braids or your natural hair, you can always style your hair by twisting them into a high bun. These days, there are bun shapers that help create the perfect bun. All you have to do is wrap your hair around one of those, and you’re good to go. Nothing beats a perfectly shaped bun!

Ponytail

Good for you if your hair has some lovely length. Late for work? No worries, you’re never too late for a ponytail. Simply pull your hair up using a fancy hair ribbon, hair band, or scarf. Let the tail dangle behind your neck, while you grab a brush to neaten your edges. Easy peasy!

Cornrows

Again, if you happen to be running late, you can make your hair into cornrows. For the sake of time, divide your hair into two equal halves. On each half, make a neat cornrow straight back. You can even switch things up a bit by braiding your cornrows towards either side, à la Keke Palmer. Either way, hair’s done and you can get on your way, looking as sleek and stylish as ever. Do not forget to brush your edges into place!

Clip-on extensions

These are the new cool. With the clip-on extensions fast dominating the hair market, the hair game gets easier. What’s more? No one is left out, as there’s something for everyone. It doesn’t matter if your hair is short or long, natural or permed, you will find something you love. For instance, the bun clip-on is one extension anyone can wear, as long as the hair on their heads is long enough to pack with a band. Should you ever be running late or out of options, simply grab a bun clip-on extension, or a ponytail clip-on extension. Attach either of these to your already packed hair, and watch yourself go from Basic to Baddie.

Wigs

It would be an utter injustice to the life-saving function of wigs to exclude them from this list, right? They’ve been saving women for many generations, and with each passing day, there seems to be more variety. Invest in beautiful, quality wigs that can come to your rescue, anytime. The truth remains that a wig is the easiest style to rock because there usually is no styling involved. When you’re running late, you can dash out of the house with your wig in hand, or in your bag. You can wear your wig on the move. Get a wig or two, sis. Rush-hour will thank you!
