Products That Actually Helped My Acne
(Without Spending a Fortune)

If you've struggled with acne, you know it's about so much more than a few pimples.
For me, acne wasn't just something I saw in the mirror. It affected my confidence every single day. I struggled with it throughout my teenage years, and even now, it's something I still deal with.
I've visited dermatologists, taken prescription medication, and spent far too much money trying products that promised clear skin. I tried brands like Clearasil, Mario Badescu, and countless others, hoping each new purchase would finally be "the one."
It wasn't.
At one point, I became so desperate for answers that I started questioning everything. Was it dairy? Sugar? Chocolate? Makeup? My pillowcase? Stress? My hormones? I paid close attention to my diet, cut out certain foods, researched ingredients, and constantly wondered if every little thing I did was causing my acne. When you're struggling with your skin, it's easy to start blaming everything around you.
To make things even harder, I was bullied because of my skin. That left me with insecurities that I still carry today. Even now, if I wake up with a new pimple, it can completely ruin my confidence for the day.
My skin is also difficult to care for because it's combination skin, oily in some areas and dry in others. On top of that, it's extremely sensitive, and I also struggle with eczema. Finding products that helped without making things worse felt almost impossible.
Eventually, after a lot of trial and error, I found a routine that finally started improving my skin. It's not perfect, and I still get breakouts, but my skin is healthier, calmer, and much easier to manage than it used to be.
The products below won't work for everyone, but they're the ones that finally made a noticeable difference for me.
The routines
My Morning Routine
CeraVe Blemish Control Cleanser
The first step in my morning routine is cleansing my skin with the CeraVe Blemish Control Cleanser.
This cleanser removes excess oil and impurities while still feeling gentle on my skin. It helps my face feel clean and refreshed without giving me that tight, dry feeling that many acne products cause.
The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%
This is one of the products that made me notice a real difference in my skin.
What I love most about this product is that it is affordable compared to many other serums while still feeling like a high-quality product.
The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA
For years, I made the mistake of thinking that because I had oily skin, I didn't need moisturizer.
I was wrong.
This moisturizer gives my skin the hydration it needs without making it feel greasy or heavy. It also works well with my sensitive skin and doesn't trigger my eczema.
SPF (Sunscreen)
The final step of my morning routine is sunscreen.
This is something I learned to never skip, especially because I use active ingredients like glycolic acid in my evening routine. Protecting my skin from the sun helps prevent irritation and protects my skin while it is recovering.
For me, SPF became an important part of taking care of my skin, not just treating breakouts when they appeared.
My Evening Routine
CeraVe Blemish Control Cleanser
In the evening, I use the same cleanser to remove everything my skin has collected throughout the day, such as oil, dirt, and sunscreen.
Keeping this step simple has helped my skin stay more consistent.
The Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7% Exfoliating Toner
This is probably one of the products where I noticed the biggest change.
Glycolic acid is an exfoliating ingredient that helps remove dead skin cells and improve the texture of the skin. For me, it helped my skin feel smoother and made my complexion look more even over time.
I also noticed that it helped with breakouts on my back, which was something I had struggled with as well.
Because my skin is sensitive, I don't use this excessively. Finding the right balance was important because using too many active ingredients can make sensitive skin more irritated.
Caudalie Vinoperfect Night Cream
After using active products, I always make sure to give my skin enough moisture.
This night cream feels nourishing and calming, especially after using exfoliating products. I wake up with skin that feels softer and more comfortable.
Products I Use When I Have Breakouts
Pimple Patches
Whenever I have a pimple that is ready to come to the surface, I use hydrocolloid pimple patches.
They help prevent me from touching or picking at my skin, which was something I struggled with because of my insecurity about acne.
Sudocrem
For irritated spots, I sometimes apply a small amount of Sudocrem.
It helps soothe areas that feel inflamed and gives my skin some extra comfort when I have a difficult breakout.
What I Learned From My Acne Journey
The biggest thing I learned is that skincare is not about finding one magical product.
I spent years searching for something that would completely remove my acne, but the reality is that healthy skin often comes from consistency, patience, and finding products that work well with your own skin type.
I also learned that acne can affect your mental health. It can make you question yourself, your habits, and even your appearance. But your skin does not define your beauty or your worth.
After years of trying expensive products, prescription treatments, and routines that didn't suit my sensitive skin, this affordable routine is what finally helped me feel more comfortable in my own skin.
My acne isn't completely gone, and I still have bad skin days. But compared to where I started, the difference is huge.
Sometimes progress isn't about having perfect skin. Sometimes it's about finally feeling confident enough to look in the mirror again.
