Tammy Reese:

What inspired you to become an entrepreneur?

Nathalie Nicole:

I became an entrepreneur when I started selling candy in middle school and high school because I wanted my own money. When I got to college I still had that entrepreneurial spirit. Hair was a big commodity so I started selling hair.

During my sophomore year I wanted to have a beauty brand that provided beauty, wellness, and, weight loss solutions. At that time I didn't know which weight loss company I wanted to go with, but I knew a lot of college kids wanted to look good. That's when Plush beauty first launched and started kicking off.

When I graduated from college I had a 150,000 dollar student loan so the decision was set to become an entrepreneur, and pay off my student loan. In 2012 my first Plush store opened up in the heart of D.C.

From then on, never in my adult life have I had a job.

I've always been an entrepreneur.

Tammy Reese:

Please tell me about the Women Who Boss organization?

Nathalie Nicole:

We so often hear the word boss used a lot. I was being called a boss at a time where I really didn't have it together. Instagram can make you look like you have everything together, but being a boss means being free, and being able to move how you want. I wanted to be a boss in real life and help other women become a boss too.

I began to show other women how to leverage their brand. I did this by creating the nonprofit organization Women Who Boss which is a social platform and playground for women to come together, share ideas, and empower each other.

Tammy Reese:

What would you like our Vocal readers to know about Plush Rx?

Nathalie Nicole:

I am so excited! The Plush Rx brand will officially be focused on beauty and wellness. Our goal is to franchise the brand. We already have a store in Maryland and we're working on a store in Houston, and some more of my favorite cities.

Tammy Reese:

What advice would you have for anyone who wants to become an entrepreneur?

Nathalie Nicole:

Being an entrepreneur doesn't mean you have to quit everything else that is going on. You can still do something passively and have a passive income. Your goal as an entrepreneur is to be passionate about whatever it is that you're doing, and to be confident.

You have to have what it takes to add value to other people's lives. That comes with confidence ,so be fearless. Don't care about what anyone thinks of you. That mindset will protect you from a lot of hurt and disappointment.

You may not always make money right away. If you have goals set, are consistent, and monetizing what you are passionate about people will then start to look for you, and put you in rooms that you need to be in because you were fearless and confident. Then when great things come your way you will be ready for that.

Make a decision to stay focused on what you are going to be successful and known for. It's also ok to put something on the backburner to just focus on what will get you to the next level.

Tammy Reese:

What do you want your legacy to be?

Nathalie Nicole:

There's a couple of things that come to mind when I think about legacy. Some think of your last name or maybe you want to leave your kids behind something.

I think of Harriet Tubman, Dr. Martin Luther King, President Barack Obama, or Oprah Winfrey because they're known for things that really are admirable.

When people think about me I want them to think about freedom. We live in the amazing United States, but there is so much going on. For me, I mirror my life on freedom and principles.

For any young woman that desires more in life, I would love for them to look at me as a role model. You can have it all! You can love God, be fly, be fierce, and have money, but the ultimate thing is to have freedom.
