Makeup's unsung hero: Makeup brushes.

What is the one thing you can't do your makeup without? BRUSHES! Yet most people admit to only have cheap, really bad quality brushes. I won't lie and say I don't have a few cheap brushes in my personal makeup bag, but brushes are where I always tell people it's okay to spend a little more. In the long run it will be a lot better to buy one more expensive brush then to have to keep buying a new cheap brush because the bristles are soft or keep falling out.

Here are a few of my favorite brushes to use:

  • Kat Von D Lock It Edge Foundation Brush
  • Kat Von D Lock It Precision Powder Brush
  • Marc Jacobs Beauty The Shape Contour and Blush Brush No. 15
  • Kat Von D Lock It Edge Concealer Brush
  • Nars Angled Eyeliner Brush #47
  • Hourglass All Over Shadow Brush
  • Bobbi Brown Eye Sweep Brush
  • Nars Lip Precision Brush Lip #30
  • Bdellium Tools STUDIO 788V BDHD PHASE III BLENDING/CONCEALING

Though having good brushes is important, taking care of them and cleaning them is just as important. And since most people admit to not cleaning their brushes or not knowing how, here is a quick and easy 3 step how to for brush cleaning. Cheap and easy so anyone can do it: Brush Cleaning.

But even worse: over 22% of women admit to NEVER cleaning their brushes! Brushes are the perfect breeding ground for bacteria especially if you are using a wet product such as creams, liquid foundation, concealer, or lipstick.

A survey said that: 22% of people say it takes too long to clean them or for the brushes to dry (which I am about to prove them wrong). One in five (21%) weren’t aware they needed to clean brushes! 19% admit to just buying new brushes when theirs get too gross and 17% don’t know how to clean them properly. This statistics break a makeup artist's heart! So I’m here to teach you a super fast, effect, and easy way to clean your brushes! On average you need to clean your personal brushes at least once a month (I recommend more for those brushes that get really caked up with makeup, especially foundation brushes).

All you need is the Cinema Secrets Makeup Brush Cleaner Pro Starter Kit (Brush cleaner and cleaning container), some paper towels, and your dirty brushes. I love this product so much, and as a professional makeup artist I am never caught on set without this in my kit! Its affordable, easy to use, doesn't stain brushes, clean smell, and fast cleaning.

  1. Pour a small amount of brush cleaner into the metal cup. It won't take much and you can always pour more in so start with a little as to not waste it.
  2. Gently swirl your dirty makeup brush in the cleaner, making sure it gets into all the bristles. Be careful as to not soak or leave a brush in the cleaner since soaking in moisture weakens the glue and bristles causing them to fall apart sooner.
  3. Wipe the brush on a dry paper towel to remove excess cleaner and wipe away the makeup. (Repeat until brushes are clean, meaning no makeup or color comes off the brush when you wipe it on a dry paper towel).

Let brushes dry for a few mins. The best part about this cleaner is that it evaporates very quickly! So for the women who say it takes to long: you can't use that excuse anymore!

It's as simple as 1, 2, 3. Now go clean some brushes!
