Try a few of these options and continue them for quite a time to lighten your hair or get highlights without wasting money on artificial ways that in the long run could damaga your hair. These natural substance will not only help you get highlights, but will also help keep your hair stay healthy and thrive.

Try these out for a few months or years. Continue it, and don't give up until the colours show up. Everything takes time, so be patient and give it some time before the magic happens.

1. Vinegar

Try out raw apple cider vinegar, it'll will help leave reddish highlights. For this, you need to combine apple cider vinegar 50/50 with distilled water. Then, spray it all over your hair to lighten the areas you want it to be coloured. You can also use a cotton ball or brush for strands to highlight. Lastly, leave on for 30 minutes, rinse out, and dry as usual.

2. Lemons

The power of lemons is great and powerful, we all know that. For this lightening method, dilute lemon juice half and half with distilled water and then apply.

3. Chamomile

First, strongly brew a cup of chamomile tea and then let it cool. Then start applying to the strands of hair you want to highlight, or if not, pour it over your entire head for color all over. Finally, go sit out into the sun and let it bake for about 30 minutes. Take a book or a movie out with you, and enjoy while the sun bakes the colours in. At last, rinse out your hair.

4. Henna

Henna only darkens, but if you are dealing with very dark brown or black hair, henna can lighten it and leave reddish highlights. For this, use 3 tablespoons of henna powder and mix it with ½ cup of boiling water. Then leave it alone for 12 hours or overnight. When it's done, apply it over your hair and sit for 2-3 hours, then wash it out.

5. Honey and Olive Oil

This formula creates nice highlights and softer hair as result. For this, warm ¼ cup of honey and add ¼ cup olive oil and mix well. Then apply to your hair and leave it on for 30-60 minutes. About 5 minutes before you wash it out, focus on ends. Remember, this is honey, so wash out well

7. Cinnamon

For this, add enough cinnamon powder to your half cup of conditioner to make a thick paste. Then, apply this to your hair and leave it for 3-4 hours or overnight. The longer you leave it, the richer the color. This softens your hair and makes it silky.

8. Honey and Vinegar

Add 2 cups of raw apple cider vinegar to 1 cup of honey. If possible add a tablespoon of coconut oil and mix it together well. Coconut oil also has many great benfits, so give it a try. Then apply it to your hair, then leave it and alone by wrapping your hair in an old towel. The best way is to leave it overnight to gain all the benefits. Then later wash it out in the morning.

9. Rhubarb

Use ¼ cup of chopped rhubarb and boil it in 2 cups of water, then squeezing out the juice. When the juice has cooled, spread it to over you hair and leave on for 10 minutes. Then wash out well, but don't leave it on for too long. It will get sticky, and cause you frustration.

10. Baking Soda

Blend in enough warm water and 1/2 cup of baking soda. If it is too thin, it won't cover well, and too thick it will dry out and not work either. Then leave on 15-20 minutes after applying. If you want it lighter, leave it on a bit longer before washing it out.

11. Vitamin C Tablets.

Crush 8-9 Vitamin C tablets and then add it into your shampoo. Wash your hair, and follow with conditioner.

12. Salt

Add 1 tablespoon salt with ½ cup of warm water. Apply it on for 15 minutes and rinse out. We all know how ocean water can lighten our hair after swimming, thus, this could be your chance to emperiment it out.
