Dark spots can bother everyone to an extent of sadness. No one wants marks, spots and dark patches on their skin, irrespective of the area, especially on the face. With regular exposure to the sun, pollution, free harmful radicals, city dirt and more, one often finds it difficult to steer clear from the dark spots and skin damage. So, what are these spots/marks/ discolourations, and why only a few people get them?

Those dark spots occur when your skin produces more melanin, which gives your skin its colour.

The good news for you is that there are various ways of treating hyperpigmentation, from including being very vigilant about going in the sun without proper protection, using skin ointments or topical medications rich in Retin-A, using exfoliating masks to fairly advanced treatments such as Micro-dermabrasion & etc. Using a decent concealer can also help at times!

No need to go into such complex treatments without first giving some home remedies a try first. Some of them which are simple and require no said expertise but could help a lot in curbing those dark spots are:

1. Aloe Vera Gel/Extract

It works outstandingly as a cure for the elimination of blemishes. It has antibacterial properties which prevent common skin infections. It has been known to have a soothing effect on the skin. It can be directly extracted from the plant, mushed into a thick paste and applied to the affected area. Let it dry for 30 mins and then wash with slightly lukewarm water for best results.

2. Lemon Juice/Extract

The juice is abundantly rich in Vitamin C and helps in lightening and healing marks, blemishes and dark spots.

Squeeze the lemon juice into a little bowl and then rub it on the blemishes with the aid of a cotton pad or your fingertips. Put on for 10-15 minutes and rinse with tipped spray. Ensure your hands are clean and use a new lemon at all times.

3. Turmeric Powder

This quintessential ingredient in Indian cooking has many beauty benefits and is famously known for having anti-inflammatory effects & is often used to treat hyper-pigmentation, marks, acne scars and dark spots.

Take 1 teaspoon of lemon juice & add 1 teaspoon of turmeric, make a thick paste and use it as a mask by covering all the affecting areas. Wash it approx. after 30 mins with lukewarm water for best results.

4. Baking Soda

It has dual properties those of an exfoliator and that of an hydrator. It has cleansing properties as well which can be used very easily. Using baking soda every day will help get rid of clogged pores and dark spots. It also maintains the pH balance of the skin which prevents pimple marks and scars.

Make a simple baking soda paste with water, apply on affected areas, let it dry and wash with lukewarm water after 10 minutes.

Such DIY regimens aren't for everybody, even some skincare practitioners & derma experts say that home-made remedies although are helpful but aren't foolproof as there are often errors in the quantity ratios of the products used leading to less expected results. That is the time to move on to clean, natural, organic and safe beauty products which have a slightly longer shelf life, such as:

1. Mamaearth Ubtan Face Wash for Tan Removal with Turmeric and Saffron

Ubtan Natural Face Wash uncovers skin’s natural brightness removing all signs of Tan.
