The removal of unnecessary hair in today's world has become a necessary thing in order to beautify ourselves. Both men and women want a permanent and less harmful and painful way to eliminate them. Everyone has tried several ways to remove excess hair on the skin; shaving, tweezing, plucking, waxing, laser, and the list continues.

These are all effective, but they are time-consuming and can be very painful as well. That's why most of us are seeking other ways that unnecessary hair can be permanently removed. The use of coffee grounds and baking soda as hair removal is what is common all over the internet. So, does this home remedy work for real?

What is Baking Soda?

For baking, baking soda is crucial. It would not be inaccurate to say that without a pinch of it no baking recipe is complete. Baking soda is known as sodium bicarbonate and is a chemical compound.

Since it is contained in crystalline chunks, it then transforms to powder form so that it can be used for a number of purposes. This chemical compound, in addition to making your baked food delicious, is one of the common ingredients in many home remedies.

Baking soda has characteristics that make it perfect for whitening your teeth, reducing excess hair oil and removing hair from areas of your body.

Baking Soda for Unwanted Hair:

Some people are fortunate because they don't have to deal with heavy, dark hair. There are many women; however who fail to regulate the excess hair on their face, arms, or even legs. This disorder can be extremely stressful.

In addition, dense and dark hair on your skin may be the product of hormonal imbalance, though it is part of the genes in most cases. In order to determine whether there is an underlying cause that leads to excess hair, you should also consult a doctor.

Apart from this, baking soda can still be helpful. In fact, baking soda is not only hassle-free, but it is also economical. Most importantly, there’s nothing as successful as cooking soda hair removal packs, if you're looking for painless ways to get rid of unwanted hair.

If you're fond of baking, baking soda will probably be sitting in your kitchen cabinet. All you need is to combine it with a few more ingredients and let it do its job.

Baking Soda and Coffee Grounds:

When it comes to treating skin conditions, coffee has shown beneficial results. You may use it to remove excess hair.

Ingredients:

Coffee grounds

Baking soda

Water

Method:

Take baking soda and coffee in similar amounts. Add water and blend thoroughly. On the jaw, upper lip, or arms, add this thick paste and let it dry up. Gently massage and wash the face with lukewarm water.

Hair removal by coffee grounds and baking soda

Terrence Tan Ting puts his experience as follows:

The cure says that the excess hair will be eliminated by combining coffee grounds with baking soda and applying it to the skin areas where you have excessive hair. Bam!-Bam! Afterwards, your hair will cease to grow.

He says this is just a misconception, sadly. The worst part is that it can even harm your skin. Experts claim that skin irritation and even clogged pores can be caused by harsh scrubbing of your face!

Hence, the answer to the question is a big NO. A mixture of coffee and baking soda does not act as a hair removal process. In reality, some studies show that coffee grounds work best for hair development.

Studies on diseases such as alopecia; a term used for hair loss are available and coffee grounds are used to assess if the hair will grow thicker and stronger. Oh, guess what it worked for real. So coffee grounds are not for hair removal, instead it just helps the hair grow faster.

What Treatment Really Works?

Terrence says that one should try to shave and wax, but then again it takes time and can be painful. Often, your hair can only grow back and once it does it will make your hair thicker.

A laser hair removal treatment is the only treatment that will remove the unwanted hair permanently. Yeah, it can be very pricey, but in the long run, it can save you loads of money. You will most probably see results after 6-8 procedures, depending on your skin type. Imagine that you don't have to shave or undergo the painful waxing just to remove the excess hair on your face.

Samantha Mcmeekin shares her journey of upper lip hair removing process:

Samantha's upper lip hair journey has been well portrayed in GLAMOUR. But after she discovered her perfect waxing hair removal procedure, she's been craving larger and better ways.

While only every six weeks or so she had to tend to her wispy blonde whiskers, she would ideally like a permanent solution. She came across an old wives' tale of using coffee grounds and baking soda to stunt hair growth as laser was out of the question (too blonde).

The idea is that you blend the two together, and then after you've waxed, shaved, plucked or threaded the region in question, you rub the mixture into your skin to stunt the growth of your hair. It sounded simple enough and in her kitchen she had both of the ingredients, so she thought, why not? She gave it a try next time she waxed.

She mixed each one with just a teaspoon into a bowl and put it ready to go to the side. After waxing her lip, she wiped the region with a post-care wipe and then patted it dry with a towel. The area is always a little red after waxing, so she was a little scared that coffee and baking soda would sting or irritate her more but she went on.

She collected the coffee and baking soda mixture with a wet fingertip and began scrubbing it on her upper lip. It did not hurt, but in such a tender area, the granules did not exactly feel comfortable. She went on for about 30 seconds and washed it off afterwards. She had a tad redder look on her skin, but no worse for wear.

For the next three times she waxed, she repeated the same procedure, because you have to give these things a proper go, you know. And although she found the regrowth was slowing down, it didn't completely stunt the growth. She was able to get away with stretching her wax for seven or eight weeks, and every time her hair seemed a little finer, though she thinks it was more down to the wax than the coffee blend.
