Olaplex Hair Care

Olaplex made news when it was reported that Kim Kardashian received Olaplex treatments like Olaplex 0, Olaplex 3, and Olaplex 8 before her wedding to Kanye West. She posted a photo on Instagram with the caption: "Gettin pre-wedding olaplex treatments courtesy of @cassandradiontott!!!" Now if that isn't a celebrity stamp of approval, I don't know what is! You may be wondering what exactly made this brand so popular? Well, we at Spring Always take a look and why this product is causing such a huge buzz in the beauty industry.

So what exactly Is Olaplex?

To put it simply, it's a bond multiplier that helps rebuild broken links between each strand of hair. It's effective on both lightened or natural hair, meaning if your locks are over-processed, tired, and feeling brittle - it'll help put life back in them! We're not going to lie to you, a lot of our staff members were quite surprised when they found out this product even existed! I mean we've heard of a little thing called sulfate but this was something we never even dreamed of! But after conducting some research and speaking to a few in-the-know industry insiders, we can tell you that Olaplex isn't just a fad. It's the real deal.

So how does it actually work?

Well each strand of hair is comprised out of three main parts:

  1. The Cuticle
  2. The Cortex
  3. The Medulla

1: Cuticles To put it simply, these are the outer layers to every strand of hair - containing melanin (it makes your hair pigmented), cysteine amino acids which strengthen your locks, water, and lipids to keep them hydrated. These all contribute to healthy strands so if one part - like the cuticle - is weakened, it'll cause your hair to break and become brittle. However, if you treat this issue right away with Olaplex 0, Olaplex 3, and Olaplex 8 mixtures it can be prevented.

2: Cortex To put it simply, these are the inner layers of every strand of hair that provides strength and volume. So if this part of your strand gets damaged? Hair fall! Now imagine how much damage has been done to your locks from over-processing via color/bleach treatments - blow-drying - straightening etc. The cortex part greatly contributes to dryness because all that harsh processing weakens its bonds over time.

3: Medulla To put it simply, the medulla is literally at the center of each strand where there are no cuticle layers - so if the cuticles are weakened, this part will get damaged first. This causes your hair to become weak and eventually break.

Now that you've learned about the basics of how your strand is structured, you'll be able to understand why Olaplex No 0, Olaplex No 3, and Olaplex No 8 work like magic! So what does it do? Well, Olaplex essentially rebuilds these broken links in between each strand by getting in through the cortex. Once there, it reconstructs molecular disulfide bonds which strengthens your hair in its weakened state (due to all the harsh chemicals/heat damage). So basically when you use Olaplex products on your locks, they help strengthen them from root to tip while preventing further breakage! Now we know all of this may sound a little too scientific, so allow us to break it down for you in the simplest of ways:

If you were to take something like chewing gum and snap it in half, that's how your strand would look when it's weak (cortex) - but if you were to take two halves of that same piece of gum and join them together, that's how it looks like when they're strong (cuticles). It may not be perfect but there is definitely an improvement! And that is basically what Olaplex 0, Olaplex 3, and Olaplex 8 do; it helps rebuild links between each strand which results in your hair strengthening itself.
