Try before you buy

As I scan through Facebook looking for news on family and friends and what everyone has been up to I see the usual ads for things I am rarely interested in. Then one ad makes me take a second look. “Free samples for aging sensitive skin” are the words that grab my attention. My skin is so sensitive I have not been able to wear make up for more than an hour or so before I am breaking out and sore with blotchy red skin. I read further and it says “Dermatologist developed for sensitive skin” and I wonder if it would work for me.. It is a Canadian company in Vancouver, BC giving away free trials. Being a proud Canadian I like the idea and free is always enticing. So I click on the link and am brought to riversol.com

The Riversol site says they will send me a 15 day sample kit to try with full instructions on how to get the most benefit from their product for my skin. I could choose the ani-aging sample or the redness control sample. I chose the ani-aging and within 2 weeks I had my free kit. I was relieved that in signing up I did not have to give a credit card for future purchases. I only had to agree to give them feed back after trying the sample. I was impressed so far.

Their website gives a lot of information about how their products were developed and the benefits of them. They have helpful tips on seasonal care and repair for your skin. Articles on many skin related things like rosacea, acne, sun damage and more. They have products available to purchase with a points program to help you get more for your money. Their products are cruelty free and vegan. Hypoallergenic and they have a hassle-free return policy. They also have a listing of where in Canada you can find their products in local stores. So you don’t have to only order online.

I started the 15 day sample and right away liked the cleanser you start with. It was fragrance free, light and easy to use. Then the moisturizer, also fragrance free was light and easy to use but left my skin feeling greasy until it was soaked in. My skin seemed to like it at first but by day 3 I had tiny sores developing that left me disappointed. I stopped using the product and 3 days later my skin had calmed down. I wrote Riversol and they asked me to try again after a few days and to only use the 2 products once a day for longer than the kit recommended. To wait to try the next items in the kit until I knew I was not going to react again. They said some skin types need time to adjust to the new product. So I tried again and still after 3 days I began to develop sores. Something in the ingredient was making my skin complain and not want to take part in this trial. I wrote and told them and they even asked me to give a review rating on a questionnaire, which I did. Would I recommend this product? Yes, if you like to try new skin care lines then I think this is a nice product, however I will recommend that if you have sensitive skin and know what you react to, check the ingredient lists. I will even be passing on the unopened samples I have to a friend so that she can try it for herself. I have had much worse reactions to other products that claimed to be for sensitive skin and none of them took 3 days to react. So to me this product would likely be good for most skin types. I thought I was going to be purchasing a new Canadian product but instead I am just promoting it. Their customer care was top notch too. They asked after my well being and apologized for not being able to meet my sensitive skin care needs. My emails were always answered promptly and professsionally. I am just one of the few who has overly sensitive skin.

Check out their website and see for yourself. They do have a great line of products for all your skin care needs. The prices are very reasonable and affordable. (Prices are in Canadian dollars) You can even request your own sample kit. Click here to look at their SPF 40 Weightless Body Sunscreen as an example of quality product at a great price.
