We know that food is good for you, but have you ever thought about putting it on your face or on your head?

That's right - several foods can be used as beauty products. The next time you're about to throw away your leftover food, don't!

Using natural products can be a nice alternative for your skin - it's fun to switch from your usual skin routine once in a while.

But more importantly, these ingredients that are always available in your kitchen can be life-saving when you run out of your beauty products.

Tell me if this sounds familiar to you...

"I thought I had an extra moisturizer in my drawer, but I was wrong." Well, it happens to us all sometimes...

Using natural ingredients in your beauty routine has many benefits.

They are less likely to irritate your skin, they are cheap, don't contain any chemicals - you know the ones you cannot pronounce, and all come from mother nature.

Just make sure to keep them in a safe place.

"Oh no, honey, put that dish down... It's my face mask."

1. Use avocado as a moisturizing mask

Avocado is a popular fruit (it's not a veggie) that can be eaten raw or cooked. It's also commonly used as an ingredient in dishes, sauces, and drinks.

Lesser known but no less delicious are their moisturizing properties which make it great for use on the skin!

Avocados have been gaining popularity lately not only because of their taste but for how well they work at softening rough patches of skin like cracked feet, elbows, and knees.

Avocados have moisturizing benefits, they contain vitamins A, D & E, which protect your skin from free radicals.

The antioxidants can neutralize the damage caused by sun exposure or pollutants.

How to make an avocado mask

A simple and quick way to make an avocado mask is to take a quarter of an avocado, put it in a bowl, and mash it with a fork into a fine pulp.

You can also add a teaspoon of extra virgin oil, and there you go.

Your face mask is ready. Spread the mask on your face and let it do its magic. Wait for 15-20 minutes, and then rinse it off.

Avocado face masks are great for moisturizing your skin and giving it a healthy, youthful glow.

2. Put honey on your lips to hydrate and soothe them

If your lips are cracking and it's getting on your nerves, I have the solution for you. A sweet kiss from your honey will make everything better.

I don't mean your partner.

I mean the honey that you have in your pantry.

Since ancient times, honey has been used as food and medicine due to its many benefits, including moisturizing dry lips caused by cold weather conditions like wintertime when the air outside becomes very chilly!

How to use honey for your lips

You can take the honey straight from the jar and put it on your lips as a lip balm.

But you can use honey to make a great DIY lip scrub that will remove dead skin and soothe your lips.

All you will need are 1 tablespoon of pure raw organic honey, 1 tablespoon of coconut oil, and a pinch of cinnamon powder for taste.

Combine all ingredients in a medium bowl until smooth, then apply it on your bottom lip, starting from the center working outwards towards each corner. Massage your lips and use cotton or a cloth to remove the scrub.

3. Apply apple cider vinegar to your hair

Are your hair dull and unmanageable to style as if they have a mind of their own? Apple cider vinegar can help to remove excess oils and product buildup from the scalp.

ACV is a great natural way to make your hair shinier and smoother.

I have used it for years now, so I can tell you with certainty that ACV definitely improves the texture of my hair. The results are noticeable after just one wash!

Apple cider vinegar works wonders on damaged hair like nobody's business.

There are also some other benefits: reduced dryness, improved elasticity (so no more breakage), boosted shine levels, and the list goes on...

Mix one or two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar with 500ml of water in an empty container or spray bottle.

Apply it evenly throughout your hair, massage your scalp and hair, and cover it for 10-15 minutes before rinsing out thoroughly!

The acetic acid reduces the pH level on your scalp, allowing sebum production to balance out naturally! And voila - shiny, healthy hair without too much effort.

4. Coconut oil to remove makeup

Did you run out of cleansing milk? You try to get makeup off your face, but the result isn't so impressive.

Oh, a raccoon is looking back at you in the mirror.

Oh wait, it's you...

If you don't want to cause a heart attack on your boyfriend, grab some organic coconut oil and apply it to your face!

It will take the makeup off your face in no time, even your eye makeup.

Put a small quantity of coconut oil in your hands and rub them together to make it more liquid.

Massage your face gently and then you can either rinse it off or use a face towel, soak it in warm water and wipe the coconut oil off your face.

An additional benefit, coconut oil has many properties that protect your skin from microbial invaders by fighting off bacteria, fungus, and parasites.

Just be careful not to get the oil into your eyes. Use it only underneath your eyelids.

5. Oatmeal bath to soothe your skin

Oats aren't only for breakfast but a great treat for your skin.

Oatmeal bath is one of the best ways to soothe your skin and get it feeling more hydrated. It also has a cleansing effect on your pores, which can help with any future breakouts!

Oatmeal contains antioxidants that are great for getting rid of toxins in our system while moisturizing dry patches like elbows or heels.

Studies show how oat extract had an anti-inflammatory effect when applied topically, too.

Talk about double-duty!

Taking a nice, relaxing soak in the tub is one of life's simple pleasures.

If you want to make your spa day even better and pamper yourself from head-to-toe, then maybe adding some oats to the mix will do wonders for your dry skin.

You can blend one cup of oatmeal into a fine powder and just add it to your bathtub as the water is running (use lukewarm water).

Lay back in the tub for at least 15 minutes and let yourself relax. Just be careful as you get out of the bathtub because oats can be slippery.

6. Yogurt face mask

How do you like your yogurt? Plain or with toppings, I won't judge.

Yogurt is a great way to nourish and moisturize the face because it's packed full of probiotic bacteria that help maintain healthy skin from within while keeping our bodies in balance.

You can further boost this effect by using plain yogurt as an at-home mask for 15 minutes!

The benefits of yogurt face masks are numerous. It is a cheap, all-natural remedy that can remove acne and other blemishes on the skin and moisturize dry patches or uneven complexion.

Yogurt masks also have anti-aging properties which leave your skin feeling smooth and youthful!

First, put one tablespoon of yogurt in a bowl, then add a teaspoon of honey. Mix it, and you're done. Your mask is ready...

Apply it on the skin for 15 minutes, and then rinse it off.

Yogurt has lactic acid that can exfoliate dead cells from your face, and honey has a natural anti-inflammatory property that can help with acne, so this is one of the best masks for your skin!

7. Add olive oil to your bath for soft skin

As you prepare your salad, you notice your skin is really dehydrated?

No problem, grab the bottle of extra virgin olive oil and go straight to the bathroom.

8. Banana peels for dark circles

If you haven't been getting enough sleep for some days, you will probably end up with dark circles.

If your partner has been snoring that's keeping you up, send him straight away to the couch. If it is just you, no problem...

Otherwise, you can use banana peels to get rid of these dark circles.
