GreenTea Peng is an upcoming artist and has been making music since 2018. Since then, she has steadily climbed up the ladder with songs talking about spiritual identity & love.

Today, I want to share with you reasons why GreenTea Peng is a successfully unique artist.

Earthy Aesthetics

When you take a look at GreenTea, you see her body is covered in tattoos, and her style is vibrant, with earthy aesthetics that are rooted in Neo-soul fashion. A music video that shows artistic style is "Moonchild", which you can watch by clicking here.

The way she looks makes her stand out (in a good way) in the music industry. Her boldness and unique qualities are very similar to Neo-Soul queen of the 90's Erykah Badu. It would be in the fashion category of bohemian aesthetics but putting her in that, seems wrong. Her appearance and aura are very original. The fashion statements and pieces she puts together I believe are also inspired by UK street style fashion.

In an interview on DocumentJournal.com, she explains that she just expressed herself, and is hesitant to use the word "spiritual" to describe herself because it's almost like a trend.

"I just express myself and don’t really think about it. I have my own understanding of spirituality, of God, and [of] the idea that something isn’t necessarily a gift unless you’re sharing it. When I’m on stage, it’s very free and maybe that’s what people are referring to, because we live in a day and age where we’re very repressed and oppressed. Of course we’re all going to be attracted to that freedom because we’re sovereign human beings who are meant to be free."

Her music & performance

Her music has a vibe that you can't really find anywhere else. The sultry tones in her voice and the lyrics in her music make her songs almost like a spiritual experience. She considers her music is a genre of Psychedelic R&B. Psychedelic R&B or Psychedelic Soul is a genre that emerged in the 1960s and is heavily influenced by drugs or psychedelics. Peng's lyrics usually consist of influences from marijuana.

One of my favorite songs from the artist is "Spells." which gives a shroom vibe to the tune. You can check it out by clicking here.

Her Music Videos

Her music videos show a very beautiful aesthetic, combing vibrant colors, pastels, and patterns, giving beautiful visuals. Of course, it's not like other people having giving visuals before. But something about how she presents it to her audience is very unique.

The video that actually caused her to climb the ladder was "Mr. Sun (Miss Da Sun)" the video, shows more surrealism, even showing at one moment where she's dancing with an identical version of herself. That video today has nearly 6 million views.

Since that video's release, she has put out more music videos, each video growing with more and more people falling in love with her music.

Fact-Checkers & Revolution

Peng also likes to include politics in her music. Her songs such as "Revolution" and "Free My People" have lyrics that talk about freeing people from emotional and mental slavery, as well as arresting people for the use of marijuana, a drug that has been imfamously discussed and made illegal by the government for years. Though cannabis is slowly becoming recreational, it is still federally illegal and could put people at risk of serving years in prison.

Greentea Peng takes her reggae songs and implements empowerment lyrics, like most reggae artists. But how is she different? Her delivery and her lyricism.

"Fact-Check the Fact-Checkers" is something she came up with while scrolling through social media and seeing recent news headlines, according to HighSnobriety.com, and how she went down a "rabbit hole", concluding that nothing is as it seems.

GreenTea Peng has released an album in 2021, called Man-Made, with songs that express sensuality, spirituality, and revolutionary themes. Check out her album on all streaming platforms or click here to be directed to her album on Youtube.
