With just her second studio album British pop sensation, Dua Lipa, has taken over the world. She has broken several records and continuing to do so with her latest album release "Future Nostalgia". A perfect ode to the disco and electronic style music of the 80s and 90s, she has taken inspiration from artists such as Madonna, Gwen Stefani, and Blondie to name a few.

The success story started from the time when the first single, "Don't Start Now" was released as the lead single last year in October. The song was a commercial and critical hit. Charting in the top 10 in over 40 different countries, the song was praised by the critics for its originality and sound. It reached number two on both US and UK Billboard charts. The lead single was followed by two more successful singles "Physical" and "Break My Heart".

The album was slated to release on April 3rd initially but due to the online leak, the singer had to release it earlier on 27th March 2020. But this doesn't affect the success of the album as it debuted at number two on the UK Albums Chart with 34,390 units and in the second week of its release, the album topped the UK charts and became the first UK number one for Dua Lipa. Along with the UK, the album topped the charts in multiple countries such as Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, Lithuania, Ireland, New Zealand, Scotland, and Slovakia. In the US, the album reached number 4 on the Billboard charts and became the artist's first top 10 entry in the charts.

On Spotify, Future Nostalgia broke three different records at the same time becoming:

The most-streamed album in a day for a British female artist globally

The most-streamed album in a day for a British female artist in the UK

The most-streamed album in a day for a British female artist in the US

The album contains 11 songs starting with the female empowerment anthem “Future Nostalgia” as the opening track. The second track is the mega hit lead single “Don’t Start Now”, which has all the elements of disco pop. “Cool” is a synth-pop ballad which is sexy and sensual, followed by another single “Physical”, which is a typical club banger. “Levitating” is another dance track which features "rubbery bass line" and "syncopated hand claps". Followed by a 70s disco style slow burner “Pretty Please” and “hallucinate”, which has amazing beats and a catchy hook. The ultimate love song of the album and my personal favourite is “Love Again”. “Break My Heart” is described as a retro-futuristic style pop song with heavy dance beats. “Good in Bed” is your typical funk rock/pop style song which is naughty and sexy. The closing track of the album is “Boys Will Be Boys”, which was supposed to be a feminist anthem to stand against bullying and sexual harassment, although the lyrics are powerful but the heavy disco beats to a power ballad doesn’t really add up. This is the only song which I think was not as good as the rest of the album is.

Dua Lipa has entered the league of the global pop stars with the success of this album and unlike some of her contemporaries, she can sing and deliver a badass club banger with good production value and meaningful songs without needing to feature other top artists to promote her album. The key USP of this album is its relatability and uniformity in the overall sound. The singer has shown her strong vocal abilities with songs such as "Cool" and "Hallucinate" and also the amazing disco-pop ballad "Love Again", she leaves you thinking she is not just another girl who gets features on other EDM musicians' albums. "Levitating" and "Break My Heart" are future club bangers and songs of the summer, just wait and watch!

I really enjoyed the album personally and almost every song has a potential to be a single. It is the best pop album of the year so far and would highly recommend it. Do let me know which one is your favourite track off the album ?
