Top Songs To Describe Your Quarantine Mood
Everyone handles quarantine differently. Here’s the soundtrack for the various moods of isolation.
Many, many months have passed, and you’ve gone through every type of emotion possible. Some days you wake up feeling like you can take on the world and some days you just want to curl up in a bed and never get up. We all need a reliable coping mechanism. Thankfully, the one thing that is always accessible is music (shoutout to Spotify for being the greatest platform invented.) Music is the way I have dealt with quarantine stress, whether it’s learning new songs on the piano or just listening to my favorite Spotify playlists. I’ve compiled some of my favorite songs for each of my quarantine moods.
Sunny: Sunday Candy by Donnie Trumpet & The Social Experiment
Nothing starts my day better at Syracuse than listening to Sunday Candy while walking to class. If I can’t be outside now, I bring the sunshine to me with this uplifting and beautiful blend of vocals.
Rainy: The Scientist by Coldplay
The Scientist is one of Coldplay’s most classic songs, and nothing is better than listening to it while curled up in your bed with rain pelting on your windows. This beautiful piano ballad never fails to keep me cozy on a rainy day.
Positive: Shake It Out by Florence and the Machine
Florence Welch has one of the most beautiful voices, and she knows how to make each part of her songs unique to her style. If you’re feeling like you can take on the world and want to cherish that moment, sing your heart out to Shake It Out.
Angsty: Harder to Breathe by Maroon 5
Paying homage back to Maroon 5’s Songs About Jane from 2002 (no doubt their best album), the edgy guitar sequences along with Adam Levine’s sharp vocals will get you riled up back and bring you back to your angsty teen years.
Chill: Cigarette Daydreams by Cage the Elephant
The intro chords of Cigarette Daydreams never fail to relax me, along with the smooth vocals and daydreamy lyrics. “You wanna find peace of mind” during this time? Sit back and just listen to Cage the Elephant.
Zen: Aqueous Transmission by Incubus
I listen to Aqueous Transmission while I do savasana, or relaxation, during yoga. The blend of the Chinese instrument pipa and the accompaniment of a Japanese orchestra make for the perfect string melody for relaxing.
Bored: Loving Is Easy by Rex Orange County
Whenever I need comfort or entertainment on a boring day, I always go back to Loving Is Easy. Its cheerful melody and distinguished vocals give you something to focus on, reminding us that during this time love is still available.
Needing a Pick-Me-Up: Treat People with Kindness by Harry Style
What’s better than spreading kindness? This song from Harry’s newest album, Fine Line, is upbeat and cheery, with the perfect blend of a choir behind his beautiful voice. I listen to it every morning to get me ready for the day.
Nostalgic: Yesterday by the Beatles
Yesterday is my favorite song by the Beatles. It alludes to a time where all your troubles seemed so far away, like the good old days before the quarantine (sigh). Paul and John could tell what the future would bring even back in 1965.
Missing College: Wasted by Tïesto
This classic song is blasted at frat parties, bars, and tailgates. And what describes typical college social life better than this anthem?
