During the Wham! days and after the Wham! days , this singer has cemented himself as an icon of music and innovator for musicians . Since his Christmas day passing, the world has mourned and honored the man that became one of the pioneers for changing music. He made his mark on creating songs for the soul or the songs that are impossible to shake off and make you dance again.

This list of songs aren’t in a general order a favorite to least favorite. These are the underrated highlights that you may have not listened to or even known of these other credits on George Michael's acclaimed and accomplished discography. These are the songs that have been missing from your music library.

1. Hand to Mouth

I talked about this song in an article a while ago, but I have to mention it again since it is a very underrated song . Anytime I listen to the song I immediately have this ambience that I’m in a lounge. Because it does feel like a lounge song by listening to his sultry voice and the steady rhythm makes you feel like you’re in a sketchy club. Not many songs can transform you into a fictional ambience. It’s a song that tells many stories about the raw realism of the demise of the American dream in the individuals he sings about. There will never be song like this one that explains the harsh reality of the loss of the American Dream. Besides Careless Whispers and Faith, this is the song that should be recognized for how his creativity and story telling abilities in music.

2. Father Figure

I remember when my mom called me to her bedroom so I would listen to this song since I was getting into George Michael's music. She was the one that immersed me into the different kinds of songs he did after he branched out of his band Wham!. It’s a song that I’m very surprised doesn’t have the same kind of acclaim or praise as Faith or I Want Your Sex. Over the years there has been some misrepresentation and misinterpretation of the song. Mostly due to the music video since it looked to be as if George Michael was stalking the woman in the video. But despite the criticisms and misinterpretations, the music video is unforgettable because of the actress they chose for George Michael's love interest which does make this song represented well. Seriously, check it out, the model's eyes are gorgeous, you can’t take your eyes off of her. Even though some people have interpreted this song as more of a daddy figure or a sex kink as opposed to the lyrical context being about George Michael saying that he will guide this woman wherever she has to go and will protect her. Some people will always define it differently but it will always be a beautiful song.

3. If I Told You That (Song by Whitney Houston featuring George Michael)

As mentioned in the title for this insert, this isn’t a George Michael song. He is featured by Whitney Houston for the duet, however he absolutely made the song wonderful with his chemistry with Whitney Houston. It is probably one of the most underrated duets in history. They way they synced together in harmony, they had those voices that could click. George Michael's songs are usually inspired by R&B music, with those ties of inspiration is really the key of why his duet worked with Whitney Houston well.

4. Fastlove

Since, I Want Your Sex came out, George Michael has been known for making very sultry and sexy songs. But this one is different because he has elements of the gay culture in there since he made the decision to come out in 1996. He changed his songs to have the elements of gay culture but with his usual sensual singing. It's a very gutsy move in his career. When Constant Craving by k.d. Lang came out, it always already worrisome that the move would ruin her career. Taking that time frame in mind for the 90s, the risk paid off, in the late 90s, gay culture was steadily getting some recognition and respect. It is a song that is very blunt, he talks about wanting a one night stand with another man and it is the most gorgeous song about one night stands you’ll ever hear.

5. Monkey

For the songs that are made in reference to drugs, there's only been two to use the term monkey for drug addictions. Shock the Monkey by Peter Gabriel and Monkey by George Michael. It's a song about an ultimatum if this lover of his wants the drugs or him. It's a great pop song from him with the serious undertone. It's just one of those happy sounding songs with a serious topic, and honestly, it's perfect that way.

Listening to his music has a different value now. Before he had already made the impact on the industry for 80s and the 90s, and even in the new millennium he continued to work on continuous albums and even make a comeback with Andrew Ridgeley for a Wham! tour. After his passing, the music stopped, we won't be treated to a reunion concert or anniversary concert. All we have now is the legacy he left behind with the music he made to last for the next generations that should listen to a musician who knew how to touch our souls and lose ourselves in his songs.
