top 10 artists recommended to funkify for COVID days...

Times...they are a changin' and the monotony of our every day "COVID cut-out" lives, are well on there last weeks (fingers crossed)! I'm sure like me, you're feeling lost and not sure what to do next, especially now after watching every last thing on Netflix and Stan. Well, Ms. SCOOP is here to bring you the hottest underground Neo Soul artists emerging onto the scene! Its time to take notes and finally get around to making that "chilled" playlist you've been waiting for! Quick! Grab them before the radio stations do and they lose their "cool!"

KAIIT

First Queens First! singer/songwriter Kaiit was born in Papua New Guinea in the month of October 97' and is a rising Neo-Soul artist emerging from the streets of Melbourne, Victoria (and she's a scorpio baby). Kaiit appeared on the music scene with her hit "Natural Woman" debuting in 2017. She went on to release a few more singles including my fave, OG Luv Kush pt. 2 and even won a ARIA Music Award in 2019 in the category of Best Soul/R&B Release for her single "Miss Shiney".

Mo'Ju

Mo'Ju, previously known as Mojo Juju, is an ARIA Award-nominated Australian soul singer, best-known for her 2018 album Native Tongue and the lead single of the same title. This musically bilingual Qween plays guitar and piano, writes songs and sings, and has created music in a number of genres. Mo'Ju has been in the scene for a hot minute, breaking into the industry releasing her Self titled album "Mo'Ju Juju" in 2012.

Mahalia

An absolute favourite of mine, Mahalia is an amazing Jamaican-British born Neo-Soul artist, hailing all the way from the UK innit! Mahalia emerged onto the underground scene in 2015 when she was only 17 years young, with her debut album titled "Never change". Since, she's blessed our ears with soulful tunes such as "Sober", "Wish I missed my EX" and "No Pressure". She toured Australia in 2020 and if you happen to catch her in your city again, I recommend grabbing a ticket asap!

SAMPA THE GREAT

Quite perfectly named, Sampa the Great, is a Zambian singer, songwriter and rapper, raised in Botswana and is currently now based in the musical city of Melbs, Victoria! You can catch her earliest tunes from 2015 titled "FEMALE" "BLACK DIGNITY" and "BLUE BOSS" all perpetuating the societal struggles of Black lives and the pursuit of strength and fight for the black community. Her music is edgy, informative and absolutely pivotal in creating and educating the masses which is WHY she makes my list!

Tiana Khasi

Tiana Khasi based out of sunny Brisbane, is a singer/songwriter and a beautiful product of the thriving jazz and soul kids sworming all over the Australian music scene. She has been captivating listeners recently with her velvety smooth, sweet sounds releasing her defiant debut EP ‘Meghalaya’ this year. It was famously named after the Indian state meaning ‘home of the clouds’, which was a significant inspiration for the project.
