"I don't like losing"

Tiwa Savage on Friday, August 28, 2020 dropped her hotly anticipated third studio album, Celia. On her album, one that she describes as “deeply personal”, Tiwa Savage opens up about A LOT of things – from political injustice to her personal life and divorce, she left it all bare on the new album.

One song that really caught my attention was a song titled “Us (Interlude)”. Upon hearing the album, this song really stood out to me. It’s a beautiful song just in terms of the music and the way it sounds, but then when you couple that with the lyrics, the song is brutal. Heartbreaking.

Speaking to Apple Music about Us (Interlude), Tiwa said:

‘Us’ is actually a full song. I wanted it to have a special moment on the album because it’s the first time I’ve addressed my separation from my husband on a song. I wanted to put it in a song because there’s something about writing lyrics and putting them to music that gets your attention more—and it lives longer, too. I wanted people to know that there’s no blame or hard feelings. We literally tried our best and I don’t want anyone to walk away from this thinking we hate each other, because we don’t.

Remember that in 2016, Tiwa Savage famously went to Pulse TV to grant a very revealing interview about the trouble she’d been facing with her then-husband, TeeBillz and this was around the time the two split.

4 years later and Tiwa finally addresses the divorce and separation on her new song, Us. Without further ado, here is Us (Interlude) and because I am a good friend, I have also gone ahead to write out the lyrics for you in case you’d like to read along or just don’t have time to listen to the song right now. .

Tiwa Savage – Us (Interlude)

Us (Interlude) Lyrics:

Verse 1

Falling, all the leaves are falling

Should have seen the warnings, warnings

A new season’s coming

Hook

So many times we lie for us

And mama prayed for us, still not enough

Not enough

Chorus

It wasn’t enough

I wasn’t enough

You weren’t enough

Love wasn’t enough

Verse 2

Losing

Damn, I don’t like losing

Thought Jamil would solve it

At least we both came out with some things

Hook

So many times we lie for us

And mama prayed for us, still not enough

Not enough

Chorus

It wasn’t enough

I wasn’t enough

You weren’t enough

Love wasn’t enough

Outro

Losing, I don’t like losing.
