The underrated Dolly Parton Movie “Straight Talk” part 1

An unsung classic

In 1992 Dolly Parton did a movie called straight talk and it is one of my favorite pictures of all time. In a nutshell, the movie is about Shirley Kenyon played by Dolly Parton who used to be a dancer in some town in the southern regions of the United States and so in the beginning of the motion picture she’s on the dance floor supposed to be dancing, but she’s giving advice and so then she gets fired for it unwillingly thinking she’s giving advice to the boss, but she’s actually like you know advising her way out of a job Laugh out loud and then she goes home to her live in boyfriend Steve played by Michael Madsen and then they have a fight and so Shirley Kenyon takes her life back in her own hands. She takes the money she has made and gets her in her car packs up and takes his bowling ball, which is a running joke because she left his bowling ball through the whole thing and went to achieve her dreams in Chicago and quite frankly, I would do that myself if I could.

Straight talk is a modern day Cinderella story. Shirley Kenyon is looking for work and a job and stuff you know because she just got to Chicago and she goes through all these jobs and stuff and there’s this one scene because she was a dancer not the kind of dancer that you might think no, but she would be like a dance instructor but at this one bar who is Hiring for dancers and stuff, she doesn’t whole move and stuff by the way, this is in the montage where she’s looking for work, and after she’s done dancing, this extra in the movie happens to be the one of the best extras I’ve ever seen in my life who gets to say the golden line to Dolly Parton‘s character Great angel now show us your tits. I’m actually laughing as I write that line in this article because that is one lucky extra in movie history I gotta tell you that much right now.

Dolly Parton really did a great soundtrack for this motion picture all of her songs that she did for this picture are completely awesome songs. Oh you know about you know get a job you know finding fighting for yourself and just she did a wonderful job both as an actress and the artist on the soundtrack, and that is also an unsung classic soundtrack that Nobody talks about more you know I’m not you get what I mean, you know, but still all the songs on the soundtrack that Dolly Parton did were just wonderful. Dolly‘s character Shirley had this wonderful tradition where she would make a wish you know anytime she had a coin she would like make a wish and so when she got to Chicago, she would she went to the stage mean the bridge and then she was like you know, unfortunately she’s making her wish and then all her money flies out into the River so she climbs over the bridge and there was this reporter played by James Woods who sees her and thinks she’s trying to kill herself so he runs down and so you know and then you know she he thinks she’s saving her and then you know the only thing he saved her from in that scene was her $20 which she was trying to get in the bridge so and then that’s how they meet up originally. And then as fate would have it surely goes to a restaurant where she’s having breakfast and looking for a job and she gives advice as one lady and stuff who is Todd Miller her boyfriend but ironically, and coincidentally the boyfriend that she’s talking about is the reporter who saved her from her $20 And then you know and then that’s about it you know and their interactions throughout the beginning we’re we’re really funny and I think I should point out. Is that the girlfriend in the movie? This was one of Terry Hatcher’s earliest roles.
