The excellence of Kendrick Lamar’s body of work should not be taken lightly. Over the span of a little more than a decade, Lamar has sold tens of millions of records, achieved multiple awards, and has earned the respect of his peers, and lately, audiences have been clamoring for another album.

While there will still be a wait for that, here are The Top 5 Reasons Kendrick Lamar Does So Well.

5. Kendrick Lamar’s Flow is Effortless

A relatively young gunner on the mic, Lamar uses his voice as an instrument. He can go within the bassline, and ride all over the hi hat. He can mash metaphors and similes together and create something completely refreshing. For instance, as he raps on “DNA,”: I got power, poison, pain and joy inside my DNA….” he demonstrates his poetic talent.

When he delves into the consistent arch of the flow, he is right at home. On his latest offering, “The Heart Part 5,” he surpasses most rappers’ simple couplets with superior authority over the English language. With words like “Desensitized, I vandalized pain

Covered up and camouflaged,” he demonstrates his fluidity and superb word choice. When he switches the flow, it’s like water cascading in a different direction. The words just float over the track and allow him to be in the zone.

4. Lamar has a way of Depicting Gritty Street Life from a Poet’s Perspective

Much like rapper Nas, Lamar can paint a picture of viciousness and violence, and have it laid over lush production. While this has become commonplace in hip hop, Kendrick Lamar weaves in various types of storytelling techniques to convey a message of street poetry.

His pen is mightier than most because he is able to observe the realities of what surrounds him. He rose to fame and fortune based on these hymns dedicated to the streets. There are little if any errors on his part. As an artist, he keeps pushing the boundaries of what is possible in his lyrics.

3. His Readiness to Show Precision and Clarity Elevate him to Lofty Heights

In his “The Heart” series, Kendrick Lamar channels other rappers like Lupe Fiasco and Drake with their own brand of continuing a theme. The crystalline clarity of the raps permit him to rise up to the mic and bleed. He can express whatever is in his soul as a young man in America.

The series takes him to a high point because it feels like the aforementioned “Cool” idealism (Fiasco) and the various time and place for Drake. Lamar simply glides over tracks with his patented ability to clarify and cut through the nonsense and produce something of worth.

2. Kendrick Lamar has Created a Body of Work that Specifies his Artistic Output

By simply rambling on the mic, there is no space for him to drop a weak product. While some of them are better than others, none of them are inferior. From the start, Lamar has had a penchant for crafting entire albums based on the skill and ability that resides in him.

His own triumph is in his many bars that he spits within the context of an entire playlist. His best chance at being a rapper is multiplied a thousandfold as he focuses on the entire scope of a collection of songs rather than harping on one track.

1. His Much Anticipated Apparent Double Album Will Solidify His Place Among Rhymesayers

While a picture has hit the Internet of Lamar holding up two CD’s marked Mr. Morale and the Big Steppers, Lamar seems poised to release the two recordings. With this entry into his discography, he will have the opportunity to prove that he will be enshrined amongst the top MC’s of all time.

If Lamar sets a precedent and makes this double album even better than his previous efforts, he will show that he is worthy of all past hype heaped on him. He takes to the stages and screen all of his frustration and rage and makes beautiful sonic portraits. Given the fact that Lamar can continue to pick up a mic and show the world his idealism, that’s all one can expect from a spitter such as he.
