The Naked Brothers Band

Before there was Big Time Rush, there was the Naked Brothers Band, a preteen rock band with actual real-life brothers Nat and Alex Wolff and his bandmates: Rosalina, David, Qaasim, Thomas, and Cooper. They were in a television film and a spinoff series that became the highest-rating show on Nickelodeon. Now if you were around in the 2000s and have watched the Naked Brothers Band show I bet you are wondering if the show was unscripted but it's not. It is a fictional scripted show with a band in a comical and dramatic twist.

It Started off As a Movie

Director and Wolff brothers' real-life mother Polly Draper came up with the idea to make a "mock documentary" about the band as if they were huge like The Beatles. The film started out as Brothers Nat aged 9 and Alex Wolff aged 6 were in a band called The Silver Boulders along with his bandmates: Thomas, David, Josh, and their band manager Cooper all ages between 9 and 10. The band was signed to Who's the Man Records and made hits like "Motor Mouth" and "Crazy Car". Things were going so well until bandmates: Thomas and Josh wanted to write their own songs for the band which didn't go well with them and the Wolff brothers. When Nat wrote a song about Rosalina (his crush and Josh's stepsister), his bandmates diss the song and mock the song causing the band breaks up. Things get all sad and depressing for Nat and Alex since the band's breakup. For instance, Alex turns his addiction to lime soda. Alex convinces him to form a new band and call it the Naked Brothers Band. After all the failed auditions, Rosalina and their friend Cole joined the band. At the end of their performance, the former bandmates rejoin the band.

However, the real TRUTH behind the film is that Nat and Alex were exposed to music from birth props to their father Michael Wolff. At age 4, Nat showed musical gifts that astounded his father then at age 5 he started to compose his own music while Alex at age 2 was playing the saxophone. According to their mother Polly, Nat and his brother Alex once shouted, "We're the naked brothers' band!" after having a bath, which inspired the name of the movie. While Nat was in preschool, he started his own band the Silver Boulders so if you have seen the footage of the Silver that was an actual archival footage. After the band dissolved, Nat wanted to start his career as an actor that's Polly developed an idea to create the film.

"We've always performed for each other at family reunions, and we're constantly singing songs at Christmas, goofy songs we've made up, or we'll put on little family plays or make family movies. So when [Aunt] Polly said, 'Let’s make a family movie,' we didn't realize it was like, a real movie."

Jesse Draper

The film premiered at the Hamptons International Film Festival in 2005 which won an audience award for family feature film. It received a nomination at the Young Artist Awards in 2008 for Best Television Movie or Special. The film premieres on Nickeloaden in 2007 and played four times drawing 14 million watchers.

The Show

After the film or better yet the pilot of the show premiered, the Former president of Nickelodeon bought the rights to the film to turn it into a television series making the Wolff brothers and the cast of the Naked Brothers Band stars. The Naked Brothers premiered on February 3, 2007. Throughout the show, the band has grown a little older including Rosalina who was the only teen in the band, and Nat and Alex compose and write the lyrics for the songs. After the show's debut, the show was a hit becoming Nickeloaden second highest ranking show.

Where are they now???

Since the show, I bet you are all wondering what happened to the Naked Brothers Band since the show ended in 2009.

Nat & Alex Wolff

Since the show ended, Nat and Alex have become a duo rock band. They had released music together and released their debut album Black Sheep. Nat has starred in films: New Year's Eve, Stuck in Love, The Fault in Our Stars, Death Note, Home Again, and Paper Towns. While Alex was doing the same thing, Alex starred in My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2, My Friend Dahmer, Hereditary, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, and Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle sequel. The Wolff brothers had starred in their mother's film Stella's Lost Weekend. According to Nat and Alex Wolff, they are down for a Naked Brothers Band reunion.

Allie DiMeco aka Rosalina

Allie DiMeco auditioned for the role so she's not related to Joshua Kaye. After the show ended, DiMeco enrolled at Florida International University and graduated in 2014, and lives in Miami. She appeared in Jordan Fernandez‘s music video in 2017 and has also gotten involved in modeling. She also appeared on two reality series: Temptation Island and MTV's Ex On The Beach: Peak of Love.

Cole Hawkins

A fun fact about Cole before he appeared in the Naked Brothers Band Movie. He appeared on Big Daddy and School of Rock. In 2006, Hawkins left the industry and attended Northwestern University. He was replaced by Qaasim Middleton.

Qaasim Middleton

After Hawkins left the industry, the show needed a replacement that was until Middleton auditioned and landed the role on the show. Since the show ended, Middleton graduated from Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts and started his own band. Middleton auditioned on American Idol and became the top finalist until he was eliminated.

David Levi

According to IMDB page, David Levi has acted in a stage play called Downtown Race Riot.

Cooper Pillot

Cooper, the band's manager went on to study at Tulane University and became a project coordinator at a company called Atelier in New York, NY as shown in his LinkedIn profile.

Michael Wolff

After the show, Michael continued to focus on his career as a musician. He went on to teach at The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music and formed a jazz band called Wolff & Clark Expedition.

Jesse Draper aka Jesse Cook

During the band's and Alex's older girlfriend. Well, guess what?? Polly Draper isn't their tutor or Alex's girlfriend, that's Nat and Alex Wolff's cousin. Awkward!!! Since the end of the show, Jesse quit acting in 2012 and now works as a venture capitalist. She has her own YouTube channel called Valley Girl.

Thomas Batuello

After the NBB, he hasn't starred in any films or tv shows ever since and has kept his profile private. Same with Josh Kaye and he isn't related to Allie aka Rosalina.

Teala Dunn

Dunn played Juanita, an orphan tomboy who later becomes girlie and befriends Alex. She has continued acting in tv and films. She is now a Youtuber and social media socialite with a million followers.

During the 2020 pandemic, Nat and Alex Wolff reunited the cast of the Naked Brothers Band.
