Look no further for your anti-valentines playlist than The Mechanisms, a ragtag crew of immortal steampunk space pirates rattling through space, time, and dimension in their trusty starship Aurora. A musical group responsible for some of the greatest Neoclassical Steampunk Space Shanty music ever created. Together since 2010 they have formed a cult following of adoring fans all over the internet by retelling myths, legends, and classic stories through a lens of queer futurism and dystopian steampunk space travel. "Some say they're from a steampunk future, others claim they're from a cyberpunk past, a few even whisper that they may be from a dieselpunk alternative now." -themechanisms.com

The Members are as follows: Jonny d'Ville, Ashes O'Reilly, Drumbot Brian, The Toy Soldier, Gunpowder Tim, Raphaella la Cognizi, Marius von Raum, Nastya Rasputina, Ivy Alexandria.

Whatever, or whoever they are, their music features stories such as Alice In Wonderland retold as a woman getting shot down and landing on a strange planet in which the war that had ended sixty years past rages on only in this small corner of the galaxy. They also tell the stories of the Olympian Gods, not Gods, but the richest of the rich, extending their own mortality through technology only available for those with the means to pay. From Frankenstein, to King Arthur, to Norse and Egyptian Mythology, they find a way to create an epic soundscape of wild tales and jaunty music unlike anything you’ve probably ever heard before. You certainly won’t find this musical group on any radio station. So if you really want to get away from everything this Valentine’s Day, play The Mechanisms as loud as you can, look up the lyrics and sing along to a world of colourful violence and playful banter.

Some may say it's an acquired taste, and that may be true, but once acquired it's hard to quit. If you're tired of the same indie pop love songs you've been hearing all your life now is your chance to escape. Want to listen to a story of two moons that loved each other so much they crashed into one another? Some may claim it was just gravity, but your humble “captain” Jonny d'Ville knows better. Want to listen to the story of Hereward The Wake thrashing his enemies, and rescuing a damsel who offers him marriage, but he's in love with his servant Martin so he ditches her? The Mechanisms is the only band that will provide.

With seven albums and one standalone, you’ll pretty much never have to listen to anything else ever again. In order, the albums are as follows. “Once Upon A Time (In Space) - 2012,” “Ulysses Dies at Dawn - 2013,” “Tales To Be Told - 2013,” “High Noon Over Camelot (Studio Debut) - 2014,” “Frankenstein - 2015,” “The Bifrost Incident - 2017,” “Tales To Be Told, Volume II - 2018,” “Death To The Mechanisms - 2020.” So buckle up and hit play and get ready to be dragged against your will into another world, where there isn’t so much pressure to be anything but what you always wished you were, an outlaw.

Welcome to a world where the timeline is, what timeline? The Mechanisms just exist in seemingly every corner of the universe. But they too will eventually fade, along with everything else. First though, you can hear them narrate, and sing, and yell, and... shoot people… Consider it an escape, an adventure, a love story, a tragedy, but at least consider it the ultimate anti-valentines day playlist. You’ll be on the edge of your seat for their entire nearly seven hour discography, and you’ll love every minute.
